Lorraine Bowman Sandpoint
Memorial service for Lorraine Bowman, 62, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Sandpoint First Lutheran Church. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Bowman, who was born in Gooding, Idaho, died Tuesday.
She grew up in Oregon City, Ore., and was a former Oregon State Female Athlete of the Year. She worked in the berry fields.
Mrs. Bowman lived in Georgia, Alabama and North Carolina, and worked as a department store model before returning to Oregon City.
She worked in local banks before moving to Sandpoint in 1972 and purchasing Connie’s Cafe, where she worked with her husband Bill for 22 years. He died in 1994.
Mrs. Bowman was a member of the Idaho Travel Council.
Survivors include three sons, Michael and Eric Bowman, both of Sandpoint, and Ryan Bowman of Sagle, Idaho; a daughter, Teresa Blankenship of Sandpoint; a brother, Lee Kidman of Oregon City; and eight grandchildren, Brandy, Christi, Michelle, Jessica, Jennifer, Ryan, Kenneth and Nicole.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bonner County Fairgrounds or the Boy Scouts.
John Preston Coeur d’Alene
No service will be held for John E. Preston, 64, at his request. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Preston, who was born in Los Angeles, died Dec. 30.
He graduated from high school in California and served for four years with the Navy as a submarine radioman.
Mr. Preston returned to California and worked as a firefighter and crew boss for the California Department of Forestry.
He moved to Orofino, Idaho, in 1972 and was the fire warden and assistant area supervisor for the Department of Lands. He moved to Idaho Falls before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1984.
Mr. Preston had worked as a fire planner in Coeur d’Alene before retiring from the Department of Lands in 1995.
Survivors include his wife of 17 years, Dohnlee; three stepsons, Jeffrey Chicks of Sagle, Idaho, Randy Chicks of Coeur d’Alene and Guy Chicks of Hayden, Idaho; two daughters, Pamela Salazar of California and Sheila Ford of Nevada; his mother, Elsa Preston; a brother, Albert Preston of Oregon; a sister, Carole Adams of California; his first wife, Barbara Preston of California; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
John Matthews Othello, Wash.
Memorial service for John Rosswell Matthews, 91, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Othello Presbyterian Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Matthews, who was born in Ada, Minn., died Tuesday.
He graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in 1923, and attended Whitworth College and the University of Southern California School of Dentistry.
In 1929 he moved to Wallace and worked as a certified public accountant and comptroller for Hecla Mining Co.
He married Marie Lockhart in 1945.
During his 35 years in Wallace he was a member and president of the Wallace Chamber of Commerce, the Idaho State Chamber of Commerce and the Gyro International Organization.
In 1964 he moved to Othello and became the comptroller for P.J. Taggares Co. He was president of the Othello Chamber of Commerce from 1977 to 1979, and served as a member and chairman of the Adams County Hospital Board from 1980 to 1982.
Mr. Matthews was also an avid tennis player and instructor.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Jeri Montgomery of Moscow, Idaho; a son, John Matthews of Bellingham; and five grandchildren.
Yvonne (Mead) Morical Kellogg
Private service for Yvonne Ellen (Mead) Morical, 83, will be held at a later date. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Morical, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.
She graduated from high school in Clarkston, Wash., and completed a two-year teaching program at Lewiston Normal School. She taught school for 43 years.
Mrs. Morical taught in the Idaho cities of Priest River, Laclede, Seneacquoteen and Rupert, before teaching at Silver King Elementary School in Kellogg for 24 years.
She completed her bachelor of arts degree from Idaho State University while teaching at Silver King.
Mrs. Morical taught pattern dance and also worked at the main post exchange at Farragut Naval Training Station during World War II.
She was a member of the American Association of University Women, the Idaho Education Association, and the Good Sams Club.
She was active with a Silver Valley bowling league sponsored by Shoshone Motors for many years and the Kellogg Senior Citizens Center.
Survivors include her husband of 57 years, Garald; a son, Gary Morical of North Bend, Wash.; a brother, Gordon Mead of Hope, Idaho; a sister, Amelia Tebaldi of California; and one granddaughter, Meggie.
