Shane Daugherty Receives Distinction As Navy Recruit

Seaman Recruit Shane A. Daugherty was selected as honor graduate of his unit during graduation ceremonies from the Navy’s Recruit Training Command in Great Lakes, Ill.

Daugherty was chosen by his peers who deemed him the unit’s most outstanding recruit.

Daugherty, a 1995 graduate of University High School, is the son of James and Candice Daugherty, both of Spokane.

William Wilson Jr., son of retired USAF Lt. Col. William Wilson of Spokane, has been promoted to the rank of brigadier general in the Air Force.

Since April, Wilson has served as vice commander of the Warner Robins Air Logistics Center, Robins Air Force Base, Ga.

In his 25 years of Air Force service, Wilson has logged 2,300 flight hours as a C-141 pilot, volunteered as a White House social aide, served a tour at the Pentagon as a logistics planner and twice served as a maintenance squadron commander.

Marine Cpl. William L. Kleinknecht, a 1993 graduate of Mead High School, received a Certificate of Commendation while assigned with 2nd Battalion, 4th Marines, 1st Marine Division, Marine Corps Base, Camp Pendleton, Calif.

Kleinknecht was recognized for remarkable dedication and initiative by consistently performing his duties in an exemplary and highly professional manner.

He is the son of Eugene and Penny Kleinknecht, Spokane.

Army National Guardsman Pvt. 1st Class Nicholas J. Brandon has graduated from basic training at Fort Sill, Okla.

Brandon, a senior at Shadle Park High School, is the son of Garth and Linda Brandon of Spokane.

Jason M. Berger graduated from boot camp at Recruit Training Center Great Lakes in Great Lakes, Ill.

A 1997 graduate of University High School, he will be stationed aboard the Abraham Lincoln in Everett.

He is the son of Ken and Sharon Berger, Spokane.

Army Pvts. Levi S. Stang and Justin S. Collier graduated from basic infantry training at Fort Benning, Columbus, Ga.

Stang is the son of Regina and Scot Stang of Spokane.

Collier, a 1998 graduate of Kettle Falls (Wash.) High School, is the son of Linda Palanuik, Kettle Falls, and Brad Collier, Deer Park.

Air Force Airman David E. Haines graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio.

Haines, son of John Haines of Greenacres and Terry Olsen of Otis Orchards, is a 1998 graduate of Central Valley High School.

Ten Inland Northwest students were named to Whitworth College’s Laureate Society for spring semester by maintaining at least a 3.75 grade-point average. They are in the Bachelor of Arts in Organizational Management program through the Continuing Studies Office.

James Barnes graduated from the Recruit Training Center Great Lakes in Great Lakes, Ill., and is assigned to the USS Frank Cable, a submarine tender ship stationed in Guam.

He is a hull maintenance technician and fireman.

Barnes, son of Kris and Brian Barnes of Colbert, is a 1994 graduate of Deer Park High School.

Travers D. Stewart, Spokane, has received a $5,000 Syracuse University Remembrance Scholarship, named for 35 SU students who died in the bombing of Pan Am Flight 103 on Dec. 21, 1988, above Lockerbie, Scotland.

Stewart, son of David Hoekstra and Sharon Stewart, is majoring in international relations and East Asian studies.
