Rosie Hosting The Grammys

The Hollywood Reporter

Rosie O’Donnell has been named to host the 41st annual Grammy Awards on Feb. 24 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

O’Donnell, who often has musical guests on her daytime talk show, is no stranger to the awards circuit. The comedian-turned-actress-turned-talk-show queen hosted the Tony Awards in 1997 and 1998 on CBS (also home to the Grammys) and is the perennial host of the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards.

O’Donnell’s appearances on the Tonys is credited with significantly boosting the show’s audience. In 1998, the ceremony attracted 11.75 million viewers and 12.98 million viewers in 1997.

Last year, the Grammys were hosted by “Frasier’s” Kelsey Grammer.

O’Donnell took the TV syndication world by storm in the summer of 1996 when “The Rosie O’Donnell Show” brought a fresh breeze into the genre that usually focused on human misery, the bizarre and dysfunctional families. O’Donnell’s blend of humor, entertainment and off-the-wall guest interviews with big name celebrities quickly drove her show up the ratings charts.
