Computer Equipment Stolen
Burglars took several thousand dollars worth of computer equipment Monday from a mobile home in the 400 block of North Hodges Road.
The 50-year-old victim, who discovered the break-in just after midnight Tuesday, also lost a black semi-automatic gun and a Seiko watch, according to police reports. The stolen computer equipment included an Amazing Electronics computer.
The burglars entered the home by breaking the metal frame of a bedroom window, deputies said. They didn’t disturb electronics equipment and other valuables in other parts of the home.
The victim found a set of smooth size 9 footprints outside the home. He told police the burglary had occurred sometime between 3:30 p.m. Monday and early Tuesday morning.
No arrests have been made.
Shoplifiting suspect caught
Security officers at the Millwood Albertson’s grocery store chased down a shoplifting suspect who tried to get away with a shopping basket filled with knives, videos and chewing tobacco.
Deputies were called to the Albertson’s at 8851 E. Trent just before 6 p.m. Saturday. Security officers had seen a man attempt to steal a videotape from the store. They chased the man around the parking lot and eventually caught him, according to police reports.
In the suspect’s shopping basket, police found 16 steak knives, paring knives and other types of knives. They also found seven additional videotapes, batteries and several containers of Skoal chewing tobacco. The merchandise was valued at more than $300.
Deputies arrested 41-year-old Mark S. Nagel, of 5000 E. Fourth, for second degree theft.
Nagel had four outstanding warrants, deputies said.
Man held on stolen property charge
Sheriff’s deputies arrested a 31-year-old Spokane man for second degree trafficking in stolen property at the Valley ShopKo store Monday.
Jan B. Ljosheim, of 240 W. Sprague Ave., was arrested at 3:30 p.m., after requesting a $44.97 refund for three shirts.
Security officers told police that a few minutes earlier they had watched a different man conceal the shirts under his coat and leave the store. They watched the man pass the shirts to the suspect, who brought them back for cash.
The man who stole the shirts was not caught, sheriff’s deputies said. Witnesses described him as white, about 40 years old, 5-foot-10 and 170 pounds. He had red frizzy hair pulled back in a ponytail.
Clerk assaulted
A teenager threw beer at a Valley convenience store clerk early Sunday morning, hit her in the chest and escaped with a 12-pack.
The victim, a 20-year-old woman, told police the suspect entered the HiCo Village store at 9219 E. Sprague around 3 a.m. Sunday and picked up two 12-packs of beer. When he got close to the clerk, the teen threw one of the 12-packs at her, hitting her in the chest, according to police reports. He then pushed her in the chest with the second 12-pack.
The suspect fled with one of the 12-packs, valued at $10.59, and got into a small gray car that had three other males inside. The clerk told police the car had a Washington license plate similar to 737GAA. The car headed north on Mullen Road. The suspect was about 17 years old, white and about 5-foot-9. He was slim and had short blond hair.
No arrest has been made. The clerk was shaken but not injured.
