Harry Ehrmantrout Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Vigil service for Harry A. Ehrmantrout, 85, will be today at 7 p.m. at Bonners Ferry Funeral Home. Burial Mass will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Bonners Ferry. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry.

Mr. Ehrmantrout, who was born in North Dakota, died Tuesday.

He grew up and attended schools in North Dakota and married Amelia “Millie” Hochhalter in 1934.

Mr. Ehrmantrout moved to Caldwell, Idaho in 1934 and worked in a woodyard before moving back to North Dakota. He settled in Bonners Ferry in 1935.

He worked as a dump truck driver for the city of Bonners Ferry, Works Project Administration, MK Construction and Ludberg Construction.

Mr. Ehrmantrout then worked for the Boundary County Road and Bridge Department until he became a partner in Lipp-Ehrmantrout Sand and Gravel Excavation in 1947.

He sold his part of the business in 1956 and helped build the airstrip near Porthill, Idaho, and worked for the Bonners Ferry Street Department, retiring after 14 years.

Mr. Ehrmantrout also owned a laundry center in Bonners Ferry and was a member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Robert Ehrmantrout of Seattle; a sister, Tillie Hall of Hermiston, Ore.; a brother, Clemence Ehrmantrout of Eugene, Ore.; three grandchildren, Ricky, Holly and Jeremy; and three great-grandchildren.

Robert Davis Ione, Wash.

Visitation for Robert H. “Bob” Davis, 79, will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. today at Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash. Memorial service is planned for 10 a.m. Saturday at Selkirk High School. Burial will follow at 1 p.m. at Newport Cemetery.

A 72-year Ione resident, Mr. Davis died Tuesday. He was born in Rose Lake, Idaho.

Mr. Davis graduated from Ione High School and worked as a powerhouse operator at the public utility district at Box Canyon Dam, retiring after 27 years.

He spent several years in community service through the North Pend Oreille Valley Lions Club.

Mr. Davis was involved in the development of the Ione Fire Department and the Life Flight helipad in Ione. He received an honorary lifetime commissioner award in 1985 and was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellow Award for dedicated humanitarian services by the Lions Club International Foundation after serving as its local treasurer in the mid-1980s.

He was active in the Democratic Party, beginning as a campaign manager for former House Speaker Tom Foley. He also served on campaigns for Sens. Henry Jackson and Warren Magnuson.

Mr. Davis was also recognized for his leadership, having the Ione Airport dedicated in his name by former Gov. Booth Gardner in 1990. Mr. Davis was the manager of the airport until the time of his death.

He was also instrumental in the development and completion of the new North Pend Oreille Railroad Depot, which serves the Lion’s Club train rides from Ione to Metaline Falls.

Mr. Davis was an active member of the Ione City Council and Fire Department, and was a member of the Pend Oreille County Board of Equalization. He was also a scoutmaster.

He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Donna Middleton Davis; two sons, Richard Davis of Anaheim, Calif., and Jon Davis of Littleton, Colo.; a daughter, Robin Davis LaDuca of Kent, Wash.; seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Austa Dahlstrom Spokane

Funeral for Austa L. Dahlstrom, 96, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A 35-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Dahlstrom died Tuesday. She was born in Snohomish, Wash.

Mrs. Dahlstrom was a homemaker and a co-founder of Corbin Park Senior Center.

She was also a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Conrad, Mont.

Her husband, Francis, died in 1980.

Survivors include three daughters, Marjorie Johnson of Spokane, Donna Thompson of Shelton, Wash., and Ruth Mattix of Veradale; a son, Franklin Dahlstrom of Dayton, Wash.; numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Ronald McDonald House or Corbin Park Senior Center.

Maxine (Helm) Rakowski Sandpoint

Service for Maxine Lorraine (Helm) Rakowski, 63, was Thursday at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Burial was at Pinecrest Memorial Park.

Born in Pacific Beach, Calif., Mrs. Rakowski died Saturday.

She moved to North Idaho in 1969 and was a member of Alcoholics Anonymous for 10 years.

Survivors include three daughters, Wanda Baker, Tonya Bartlett and Lela Scott, all of Washington state, and three sons, Stephen Rakowski of Washington state, and Bruce and Ken Rakowski, both of Idaho; four sisters, Helen Misner, Lela Walters, Alverda Reeves and Lois Sexton; two brothers, Stanley Good and Richard Helm; 13 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Donald Dinning Bonners Ferry, Idaho

Service for Donald Irvin Dinning, 68, will be today at 11 a.m. at Bonners Ferry First Baptist Church. Burial will follow at Grandview Cemetery in Bonners Ferry. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dinning, who was born in Rush, Colo., died Monday.

He grew up in the Copeland and Porthill, Idaho, areas and graduated from Bonners Ferry High School in 1948.

Mr. Dinning served with the Navy in Hawaii. He graduated from the San Diego Hospital Corps School in 1952 and served in a hospital in Bremerton. He also served in Korea and Japan and was honorably discharged in 1954.

Mr. Dinning completed beauty school in Spokane and operated a salon in Bonners Ferry for three years. In 1959 he started a 39-year career in investments and real estate.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Barbara “Bobby”; three sons, Dan and Rick Dinning, both of Bonners Ferry, and Jay Dinning of Libby, Mont.; a daughter, Dianna Rooney of Libby; five brothers, Gifford, Leighton, Ray, Ken and LaVern Dinning, all of Bonners Ferry; a sister, Mary Ula of Thompson Falls, Mont.; and 10 grandchildren.

Russell Barkley Coeur d’Alene

No service will be held for Russell E. Barkley, 84, at his request. Burial will be at San Jacinto Valley Cemetery in California. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barkley, who was born in Douglas, Kan., died Tuesday.

He grew up and graduated from high school in Kansas, and received a bachelor’s degree from Baker University in Kansas.

Mr. Barkley moved to California in the late 1930s and worked for American Wholesale Hardware. He retired as executive vice president in 1976.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1996 to be near family.

His wife of 45 years, Euleil, died in 1986.

Survivors include a daughter, Sharron Barkley of Coeur d’Alene; a brother, Raymond Barkley of Kansas; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Elsa Hagenlocher Moscow, Idaho

Memorial luncheon for Elsa Hagenlocher, 86, will be Thursday at noon at the Moscow Community Center.

Mrs. Hagenlocher, who was born in Wurttemberg, Germany, died Friday.

She grew up and attended school in Germany, and trained as a beautician before immigrating to the United States in 1928.

Mrs. Hagenlocher lived in New York City and worked as a beautician until retiring in 1976 and moving to North Carolina.

She moved to Moscow in 1983. She was a member of the Moscow Friendly Neighbors, the Eagles Lodge and the Roadrunners. She was also active with the Retired Senior Volunteer Program.

Mrs. Hagenlocher was preceded in death by her husband, Willy.

Survivors include a daughter, Ruth Szocik of Florida; two sons, Frank Werner and William Hagenlocher, both of Moscow; a brother, Erwin Hulak of Pennsylvania; and five grandchildren.
