NC will miss Reid

I was dismayed to read the news about coach John Reid leaving North Central High School (“Reid out at NC - twice,” June 3).

I am surprised the NC administration would treat one of their teachers and a popular coach in such a manner. To have any teacher in five different classrooms each day is extraordinarily unfair as it is, plus the added coaching responsibilities on top of that is unreal.

When the initial agreement was made four years ago, the former administration recognized the qualities in Reid and the best package available was put together with the promise that a normal teaching schedule would happen down the road.

NC has been in need for years for someone to care about the long-neglected women’s athletic programs. It seems they found someone in Coach Reid who was willing to put in that time and energy and yet, the present NC administration lacks its own time and energy to make it work or make good on the plan from the former administration.

This poor strategy has cost NC a good person, teacher and coach. One man’s loss is another man’s gain. NC is the loser here and when the administration realizes no one wants to work under them, then what?

Good luck, Coach Reid, you deserve better. Cindy Gellner Spokane
