Volvo AB and DaimlerChrysler AG are considering a merger and are negotiating the price, the Swedish business daily Dagens Industri reported Friday. The companies declined comment on the report.

Donald Trump is going into the casino-building business. Trump, who owns three casinos in Atlantic City, N.J., but didn’t build any of them, said Friday he will demolish Trump World’s Fair casino and build a new casino on the 12-acre Boardwalk site next to Convention Hall.

California’s governor is expected to sign a bill that would once again require employers to pay overtime to workers in most cases on days they work more than eight hours. The bill requires employers to give workers 1-1/2 times their normal pay for working more than eight hours a day and double pay for work more than 12 hours a day.

Sam Jadallah, one of the executives most responsible for developing Microsoft’s dominance in the computer industry, is leaving to join an Internet start-up. Jadallah, who turns 35 next week, is a 12-year Microsoft veteran who worked most recently as vice president of worldwide enterprise sales. He declined to name or describe the company he is joining.

Allstate Corp. is buying workers’ insurance company American Heritage Life Corp. for $1.1 billion as it continues to expand beyond its core property and casualty business.
