Fire Danger Forces Burning Restrictions

The fire danger in the northern part of the Panhandle is considered high by the Idaho Department of Lands.

In the Pend Oreille District and Sandpoint Ranger District, the following restrictions are effective immediately:

Burn barrels must be attended at all times with a shovel and garden hose;

Two people must attend to yard debris burns with shovel and garden hose;

Hand-piled slash burns must be attended by two people with shovels, with a minimum eight-foot clearing around the pile and 300 gallons of water with a 10 gallon-per-minute pump and 200 feet of hose;

Machine-piled slash has the same restrictions, but also requires that a bulldozer or excavator be on site.

Call the Department of Lands for permits and other information. To report a wildfire, call 1-800-CDA-FIRE or 911.
