From Staff Reports

Idaho Children’s Trust Fund has awarded $22,590 in grant money to North Idaho programs intended to prevent child abuse and neglect.

St. Vincent de Paul in Coeur d’Alene and the St. Maries School District each received $5,000, said Carolyn Beaver, Idaho Children’s Trust Fund executive director. The Bonner County School District received $4,590, Orchard Elementary School in Lewiston got $4,500 and Alternatives to Violence in Moscow was awarded $2,000.

“Courage to Change,” the St. Vincent de Paul program, focuses on enhancing the self-esteem of children ages 4 through 17, ending homelessness and discouraging drug abuse. St. Maries’ “Parents Helping Parents” offers eight parenting classes and establishes a parent support group.

“Love and Logic Parenting” is a seven-week course for parents of preschool and elementary school-aged children offered through the Bonner County School District. Orchard Elementary’s “Jump Start” is an eight-week program for elementary students with emotional, mental or behavioral problems.
