Volunteers needed: KidsDay is Aug. 14 at Riverfront Park and many of the agencies and businesses that will be helping to celebrate youth in the community need volunteers to make their activities a success. Volunteers will help set up the park, staff booths, pass out information and more. For more information, call (509) 625-6440.

Be a role model: The North Hill Recreation program is looking for volunteers for summer and fall programs who will be positive role models for young children. The program serves children in fourth and fifth grades from all over the North side. For more information, call Pauline Posey at (509) 625-4449.

Not just for bookworms: Northwest Bookfest, a huge book fair focusing on Northwest bookstores and publishers, held in Seattle, is reaching out to teens this year hoping to generate interest among younger readers and writers. Program organizers are now developing activities that would encourage teen participation. If you have suggestions for Northwest Bookfest organizers, send them to us and we’ll pass them along. If you are a teen and would like to be involved in the planning, send us your name, address and phone number. You can send it to any of the addresses at the bottom of the page.
