Etta Cress Coeur D’alene

Service for Etta Anne Cress, 83, will be today at 11 a.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur D’alene. Burial will follow at Coeur D’alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Cress, who was born in Washtucna, Wash., died Saturday.

She married Ira Cress in 1934 and lived in Kewa, Wash., before moving to Colville, Wash., in 1956. She moved to Harrison Flats in 1961.

Mrs. Cress was a homemaker and worked as a nurses aid in St. Maries and Coeur d’Alene. She was a Baptist and was active in the Democratic Party.

Her husband of 56 years, Ira, died in 1990. Survivors include a son, George Cress of Harrison Flats; a daughter, Mary Harrell of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Helen Somday of Malo, Wash.; a half-sister, Mabel Stotts of Curlew, Wash.; five grandchildren, Gail, Clarena, Karen, Keith and Darrell; and nine great-grandchildren.

Sydney Rossi Spokane

Funeral Mass for Sydney A. “Syd” Rossi, 80, will be at 10 a.m. today at Our Lady of Fatima Roman Catholic Church. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rossi, who was born in Jessup, Pa., died July 13.

He served in the Civilian Conservation Corps before serving as a corporal in an artillery observation battalion with the Army in the European Theater during World War II. Mr. Rossi was wounded in battle and was awarded a Purple Heart.

In 1945 he married Teresa Del Monte.

Mr. Rossi lived in Danbury, Conn., where he was a journeyman electrician and a business agent for Union Locals 525 and 488 of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers.

After his retirement in 1981 he moved to Seattle, then to Edmonds, and finally Spokane.

Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Aleta Markham of New Milford, Conn., and Lisa Rossi of Santa Clara, Calif.; a son, Alan Rossi of Spokane; a brother, Arnold Rossi of Danbury; four sisters, Elda and Mary Scattolini, and Elsie Banfi, all of Danbury, and Edith Tomaino of Brookfield, Conn.; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society of Spokane.

Virginia Kraft-Leonard Hayden, Idaho

No service will be held for Virginia A. Kraft-Leonard, 70, at her request. English Funeral chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of cremation.

Mrs. Kraft-Leonard, who was born in Meadville, Pa., died Friday.

She was a homemaker and moved to the Hayden area in 1991.

Mrs. Kraft-Leonard was a member of the Hayden Lake (Idaho) Friends Church.

Survivors include her husband, Harold; two sisters, Ruth Alford of Post Falls and Velma Kline of Pennsylvania; and two brothers, Milford and Bill Henry, both of Pennyslvania.

Lyle Jorgens Spokane

Memorial service for Lyle A. Jorgens, 52, will be at 7 p.m. today at Valley Fourth Memorial Church. Burial will be at Pines Cemetery. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Jorgens died July 12 of cancer.

He graduated from University High School in 1965 and earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical and metallurgical engineering from the University of Washington in 1969. He was a member of the varsity crew team at the college.

In 1970 he married Vicki Messmer.

Mr. Jorgens was the C.E.O. of Spur Industries Inc., a metal bonding company, and was also the owner and founder of Alutek, a metal processing company, both in the Spokane Valley.

He was a charter member of the Valley Fourth Memorial Church, and served as church elder, Sunday school teacher, treasurer and in other church related roles over the years..

Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Laurie; a son, Scott; his father, Stan Jorgens of Spokane; and three brothers, Duane and Winton Jorgens of Spokane, and Terry Jorgens of Valdez, Alaska.

Memorial contributions may be made to Valley Fourth Memorial Church.

Susie (Brown) Lightle Spokane

Funeral for Susie Fay (Brown) Lightle, 89, will be at 11 a.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at Pines Cemetery.

Mrs. Lightle, who was born in Missouri, died Friday.

She moved to Spokane in 1918 and attended Trentwood Grade School and West Valley High School. In 1929 she married Burdette Lightle.

Mrs. Lightle worked for the Diamond Match Co. in Spokane for several years before moving to Reardan, Wash., in 1945.

She worked for the Reardan School District, Frisk Grocery and was a caregiver for a number of years before returning to Spokane.

Mrs. Lightle was a charter member of Pasadena Church of the Nazarene in Spokane.

Her husband died in 1960.

Survivors include two daughters, Helen Krupke and Carol Schulz; 14 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Pasadena Church of the Nazarene, Nazarene Pinelow Church Camp or to Hospice of Spokane.

Nora Leinweber Colfax, Wash.

Memorial service for Nora Leinweber, a former longtime resident of Endicott, Wash., will be at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Trinity Lutheran Church of Endicott. Private burial will be held prior to the service at the Endicott Cemetery. Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Leinweber, who was born and raised in Endicott, died Sunday. She was 93.

She married Rueben Leinweber in 1923, and they lived and farmed for many years in the Endicott area. Her husband died in 1976.

Mrs. Leinweber continued to live on the family farm after the death of her husband, and she moved into the Whitman Health and Rehab Center in Colfax six years ago.

Survivors include two sons, Merlin and Reuben Leinweber Jr., both of Endicott; three sisters, Evan Hopkins of Longview, Wash., June Moore of Colfax, Wash., and Mary Dodge of St. John, Wash.; a brother, Ray Bafus of Brewster, Wash.; and four grandchildren.
