Ed Clary Sr. Spokane

Funeral for Ed. H. Clary, Sr., 96, will be at 11 a.m. today at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clary, who was born in Cranston, R.I., died Tuesday of Alzheimer’s disease.

He served as business agent and secretary for the Painters Union Local 427 in the Tri-Cities for 22 years, and was a member of the Hanford Construction and Labor Management Panel, where he assisted in resolving special labor problems.

In 1967 he moved to Spokane and began working as the executive secretary and treasurer of the Painters District Council 54.

Mr. Clary was also the secretary and treasurer for the State Painters Conference for many years.

He was a lifetime member of the International Brotherhood of Painters and Allied Trades.

Survivors include his wife of 44 years, Wilma; three sons, Ed Clary Jr. of Mead, Peter Clary of Ohio and Paul Clary of Idaho; a stepson, James Davidson of Illinois; two daughters, Joan Clary of Coeur d’Alene and Lois Bishop of Yuma, Ariz.; 17 grandchildren, several great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter.

Clifford Edeen Spokane

Visitation for Clifford Edeen, an 80-year Spokane resident, will be from 3 to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Graveside will follow at 1 p.m. at Pines Cemetery.

Mr. Edeen, who was born in Troy, Idaho, died July 16. He was 87.

He worked as a courier for the Burlington Northern Railroad for many years.

Mr. Edeen is survived by numerous cousins.

Robert Emmons Laclede, Idaho

Memorial service for Robert E. Emmons, 56, will be July 31 at 2 p.m. at the Newport First Baptist Church in Newport, Wash. Voorhis-Draper Funeral Home in Monticello, Ind., was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Emmons, who was born in Lafayette, Ind., died July 1.

He grew up in the Pacific Northwest and in Indiana. After serving four years with the Air Force in Colorado, he returned to Lafayette. He moved to Bakersfield, Calif., in 1978 and to Houston in 1981, before moving to Laclede in 1982.

Mr. Emmons began a career with Global Marine Drilling as an electrician and worked his way up to bargemaster while traveling extensively around the world.

He was a member of the Masonic Temple.

Survivors include his wife, ReZina; two daughters, Kimberly Emmons of Bakersfield and Tina Burnett of Lafayette; two sons, Bryan Emmons of Racine, Wis., and Travis Emmons of Laclede; his mother, Hilma Emmons of Lafayette; two sisters, Janet Keelor and Roxie Hartman, both of Indiana; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to the Kidney Cancer Association or the Make-A-Wish Foundation.

Vera (Leitzen) Hillsbery Spokane

Funeral for Vera Helen (Leitzen) Hillsbery, 85, was previously held in Oregon. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hillsbery, who was born in Kelso, Wash., died June 15.

She married David Hillsbery Sr. in 1934, and they moved to Spokane in 1948.

Mrs. Hillsbery was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Barbara Main of Oregon City, Ore., and Lillian Hill of Colville, Wash.; a son, David Hillsbery Jr. of Spokane; and four grandchildren.

Jessica Gumaer Priest River, Idaho

A celebration of life and memorial service for Jessica Kathryn Gumaer, 27, will be Saturday at 10:30 a.m. at the Sandpoint Christian Center. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Gumaer, who was born in Santa Cruz, Calif., died Monday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Trestle Creek in Bonner County.

She grew up in Santa Cruz and in 1988, moved to Sandpoint. She married Joebi Gumaer in 1996.

Mrs. Gumaer had worked at child-care centers.

Survivors include her husband; her mother and stepfather, Barbara and Michael Chastain of Sandpoint; her father, James Sink of Washington; two sisters, Alisha Wiltse and Sarah Sink, both of Sierra Vista, Ariz.; two brothers, Ryan Bub of California and Chris Barton of Sandpoint; grandparents, Tom and Margaret Vaubel, and Chas and Joletta Chastain, all of California; and her great-grandmother, Ida Willis of Rathdrum, Idaho.

Frances McSpadden Spokane

Memorial service for Frances M. McSpadden, 79, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Sunset Chapel on the grounds of Fairmount Memorial Park. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. McSpadden, who was born in Sandpoint, died last Saturday.

She came to Spokane in 1938 and worked for the City Parcel Delivery service. She retired from working at The Crescent department store in 1982.

Her husband, Vernon McSpadden, died in 1996.

Survivors include two daughters, Sally Steidl of Vancouver, Wash., and Connie Cross of Evansville, Ind.; a sister, Luverne Savage of Seattle; and four grandchildren.

Beth Winebarger Coeur d’Alene

Service for Beth I. Winebarger, 60, will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at English Funeral Home in Post Falls. Burial will follow at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.

Mrs. Winebarger, who was born in Orofino, Idaho, died Wednesday.

She moved to Spirit Lake, Idaho, in the early 1940s, and had lived in North Idaho and Spokane most of her life.

Mrs. Winebarger worked as a supervisor for the Post Falls School District lunch program.

Survivors include her husband of more than 43 years, Melvin; three daughters, Karen Burns of Spokane, Diana Kizer of Newman Lake and Tami Venzor of Post Falls; her mother, Mabel Grogan of Orofino; three brothers, Glen Grogan of Newport, Wash., Leo Grogan of Newman Lake and Gail Grogan of Spirit Lake; and four grandchildren.

Kyle Kirk Hayden, Idaho

Service for Kyle R. Kirk, 18, will be Friday at 2 p.m. at New Life Community Church, 6100 W. Hayden. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kirk, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Monday in an automobile accident near Liberty Lake.

He was a lifelong Coeur d’Alene resident and graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School this year.

Mr. Kirk had worked as a landscaper and was a member of the New Life Community Church Youth Group.

Survivors include his parents, Randy and Connie Kirk of Hayden; two brothers, Chris and Cassey Kirk, both at home; grandparents, Gerald Kirk, Dorothy Webb of Hayden and Nona Chadwell of Lapwai, Idaho; and great-grandmothers, Florence Pressley and Lois Johnson.
