Ora (Culbert) Lowder Spokane
Funeral for Ora E. (Culbert) Lowder, 89, is planned for 1 p.m. Thursday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Desert Lawn Memorial Park in Kennewick.
Born in Othello, Wash., Mrs. Lowder died May 24.
She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Lowder served as president of the Kootenai American Legion Auxiliary Post 14 in Coeur d’Alene for many years and as secretary for Post 31 in Bend, Ore., for several years. She returned to the Spokane area a few years ago.
In 1950 she became a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
She was preceded in death by two husbands, Sylvester Rohlinger and Thomas Lowder.
Survivors include a son, Delbert Rohlinger; three daughters, DeLoris Derhak, Gail Moore, and Constance Martinez; a foster son, Francis Peine; three stepchildren; a sister, Opal Young; 16 grandchildren and 18 great-grandchildren.
Peter Skok Valley, Wash.
Funeral for Peter T. Skok, 79, will be at 10 a.m. today at Holy Ghost Catholic Church in Valley. Burial will be at the St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery in Jump Off Joe, Wash. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Skok, who was born in Valley, died Sunday.
He served in the Army Air Corps and the Army Corps of Engineers during World War II. He earned a Good Conduct Medal, Victory Medal, American Theater Service Medal, Asiatic Pacific Medal and the Philippines Liberation Medal with two Bronze Service Stars.
After his discharge in 1945, Mr. Skok worked as a carpenter and builder in the Valley area for many years. He also spent a short time in Alaska.
He was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church and the American Legion Post 54 and Holy Ghost Catholic Church, where he helped build the rectory.
Survivors include five brothers, John and Rev. Charles Skok, both of Spokane, Jasper Skok of Mercer Island, Wash., Phil Skok of Chewelah, and Nick Skok of Valley; five sisters, Mamie Johnson, Helen Kreutz and Sr. Anne Skok, all of Spokane, Agnes Hurbi of Valley, and Betty White of San Diego.
Bobbe (Church) Caton Spokane
Memorial service for Bobbe Arlene (Church) Caton, 82, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Heritage Funeral Home.
Mrs. Caton, who was born and raised in Illmo, Mo., died Sunday.
She attended Southeast Missouri State University and Highland University in New Mexico.
Mrs. Caton taught elementary school in Illmo, Carrizozo, N.M., and Quincy, Wash., before moving to Spokane in 1962, where she was also a teacher.
In 1940 she married James Caton. He died in 1978.
She was a member of the Jonas Babcock Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, was a past escort for Corbin Community Center and was a member of Whitworth Presbyterian Church.
Survivors include a daughter, Kimberly McCollim; a son, Hal Caton; a brother, Bill Church of North Little Rock, Ark.; and four grandchildren.
Allen Berglund Spokane
Visitation for Allen W. Berglund, 79, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 2:30 p.m. Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Cemetery in Trentwood.
Mr. Berglund, who was born in Tacoma, died Sunday.
He graduated from Stadium High School in Tacoma.
In 1944 he married his wife, Blanche.
Mr. Berglund worked in the grocery industry in Seattle for 25 years, as a clerk and manger of retail stores. He retired in 1982.
He served as president, secretary and treasurer of the Retail Clerk’s Union Local 1105, was president of the Seattle Catholic Choir Guild, a member of the 4th Degree Knights of Columbus, the Sno King Chorale and St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spokane, where he sang in the choir. Mr. Berglund also performed several seasons with the Seattle Opera.
After retirement, he spent his time between his home in Spokane and in Yuma, Ariz.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Bill Berglund of Forks, Wash.; four sisters; and four grandchildren.
Jack Bratten Spokane
Memorial service for Jack E. Bratten, 83, will be at 2 p.m. today at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel. Burial will follow at the cemetery. Hennessey-Smith funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A 27-year Spokane resident, Mr. Bratten died May 27. He was born in Akron, Ohio.
Mr. Bratten received his doctorate in psychology from the University of California in Berkeley in 1956.
He worked for Rand Corp. and System Development in Santa Monica, Calif., for several years. He later retired as the director of psychological services at Lakeland Village in Medical Lake.
Mr. Bratten was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes, the Spokane Club and a several environmental and animal rights groups.
Survivors include his wife, Cornelia; a son, Timothy Bratten of Balcarce, Argentina; a daughter, Pamela Vail of Colville, Wash.; a brother, Frederick Bratten of Ashland, Ore.; two sisters, Alice Cole of Sherrodsville, Ohio, and Geraldine Klink of New Braunfels, Texas; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Everett `Willie’ Wilson Spokane
Funeral for Everett “Willie” Wilson, 65, was Tuesday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial was at Riverside Memorial Park.
A 43-year Spokane resident, Mr. Wilson died May 26. He was born in The Dalles, Ore.
Mr. Wilson served in the Oregon National Guard and then in the Air Force during the Korean and Vietnam wars. He retired from the Air Force in 1972.
He worked for the Postal Service in Spokane for many years and retired earlier this year.
Mr. Wilson was a graduate of the Seniors Police Academy Program in Spokane.
Survivors include his wife, Frances; three sons, Dan, Glenn and Everett Wilson, Jr., all of Spokane; two daughters, April Person of Cheney and Becky Maulhardt of Greenacres; two brothers, Harold Wilson of Milwaukee, Ore., and Dan Wilson of Portland; two sisters, Patricia Snider and Bonnie Cawley, both of Portland; seven grandsons and one granddaughter.
Lucille Warriner Spokane
Funeral for Lucille I. Warriner, 83, will be at 1 p.m. today at HennesseySmith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
A 70-year Spokane area resident, Mrs. Warriner died Sunday. She was born in Sunrise, Wyo.
She worked in the accounting industry for many years.
Mrs. Warriner was a member of South Hill Baptist Church and the Spokane Weavers Guild.
Her husband, Frederick Warriner, died in 1977.
She is survived by a son, Rick Warriner of Spokane; a daughter, Sue Lewis of Modesto, Calif.; a brother, Jim Hoadley of Spokane; seven grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Margaret Smith Spokane
Graveside service for Margaret Smith, 98, will be at 11 a.m. today at Holy Cross Cemetery. HennesseySmith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith, who was born in Aberdeen, Scotland, died Monday.
She came to the United States when she was 14 years old, settling on a homestead in Montana with her family. She moved to the Spokane area in 1923.
Mrs. Smith was a homemaker and a member of St. Patrick’s Altar Society. She was a Gold Star Mother.
Her husband, John Smith, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Vincent Smith, and a daughter, Isabel Camp, both of Spokane; six grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren.
Helen Gingrich St. Maries
Service for Helen L. Gingrich, 82, will be at 11 a.m. today at Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries. Mrs. Gingrich, who was born in Porterville, Calif., died Tuesday.
She grew up in Colfax, Wash., and Pullman and worked as a checker for Safeway in the Colfax area.
Mrs. Gingrich then lived near Palouse, Wash., and was a farmer and cattle rancher. She moved to Santa, Idaho, in 1961.
She worked as a cook at the Fernwood Cafe and Minerva’s Cafe in St. Maries and moved to Lewiston in 1965.
Mrs. Gingrich then worked for Omark Co. before moving to St. Maries in 1970.
Survivors include three daughters, Cheri Pratt of Oregon, Donna Hash of Harvard, Idaho, and Janet Nelson of St. Maries; a brother, John Losell of Spokane; a sister, Marie Ely of Valley, Wash.; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
Flossie Cain Spokane
Visitation for Flossie Elizabeth Cain, 75, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax, Wash. Funeral is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at the Dusty (Wash.) Cemetery.
Born and raised in Endicott, Wash., Mrs. Cain died Monday.
She married Emmitt Cain in 1941. They lived in the Endicott and LaCrosse, Wash., areas for many years.
Her husband died in 1985. She moved to Spokane in 1986.
Mrs. Cain was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, Emmitt Cain of Ritzville, Wash., and Edwin Cain of Spokane; two daughters, Julie Baughn and Alice Anderson, both of Spokane; a sister, Sarah McKay of Spokane; a brother, Harry Leinweber of Winona, Wash.; nine grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.
Helen Carow Spokane
Funeral for Helen G. Carow, a lifetime Spokane resident, will be at 10 a.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
Mrs. Carow died Monday. She was 88.
She was a homemaker and a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church.
Her husband, Earl, died in 1992.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald Carow of Black Diamond, Wash., and Dennis Carow of Port Angeles, Wash.; four grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Rev. Willis Shane Spokane
Funeral for the Rev. Willis E. Shane, 83, will be at 10 a.m. today at Mountain View Assembly of God Church. Private burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Rev. Shane died Saturday.
Rev. Shane pastored many Assembly of God churches throughout the Spokane area, including Mountain View Assembly of God.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley; two sons, Darrell Shane of Spokane and Dean Shane of Mead; two grandsons, two step-grandsons, two great-granddaughters and two stepgreat-granddaughters.
James Peters Post Falls
Viewing for James D. Peters, 90, will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Friday at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Service is planned for 11 a.m. will Saturday at the funeral chapel.
Mr. Peters, who was born in Copeland, Idaho, died Monday.
He lived in Sandpoint until settling in Coeur d’Alene in 1955. He worked as a self-employed logger.
Mr. Peters was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge and the Scottish Rite of Free Masonry.
His wife of 65 years, Lila, died in March.
Survivors include a son, Jimmie Peters of Post Falls; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
Mary Blood Spokane
Private service will be held for Mary A. Blood. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Spokane, Mrs. Blood died May 27. She was 83.
She was a Civil Service worker in Seattle for many years before returning to Spokane in 1988.
Survivors include a sister, Virginia Iller; two cousins, Carol Marie Morin and Paul Gabriel, all of Spokane; and numerous nieces and nephews.
