Pasadena Park Plan Back Again
Developers of a controversial Pasadena Park subdivision rejected earlier are back with a scaled-down plan.
Developers Bob Fraser and Mike Kinney are proposing putting 110-homes on about 39 acres just east of Argonne and Wellesley in a subdivision called Fraser Estates.
The developers’ original plan, also called Fraser Estates, would have put 179 homes on 59 acres. That was shot down by county commissioners in 1995. Developers apealed, but the state Supreme Court last year upheld the commissioners’ decision.
Neighbors say they’ll again fight the development, even if it is scaled back.
“We would like it to stay the same density as we are,” said Elvera Felgenhauer, who lives north of the proposal. “I don’t understand what they’re feeling. I’m amazed they think they (do) this again.”
The Spokane County Planning Department has received more than a dozen letters about the project. Many of them say they don’t want increased traffic and dense, cookie-cutter-style homes in an area known for its rural character. Developers say this new proposal axes previous concerns.
“Basically, we have met the court’s criteria density-wise and road-alignment wise,” Mike Kinney said.
Neighbors say that plan doesn’t jive with their neighborhood agreement. In 1994, a Pasadena Park neighborhood group drafted a plan that would require new projects to follow existing plans. In many cases, that would require putting one home on one acre or more.
“The density is not compatible with the existing neighborhood,” said Val Zimmerman, who lives on Wellesley east of Argonne. She, along with others said they will fight the proposal. “We’re just wondering when it’s going to stop. They’ve been denied three times.”
MEETING Developers of a proposed 110-home subdivision just east of Argonne and Wellesley will meet with Pasadena Park neighbors at 6:30 tonight at the Argonne Library, 4322 N. Argonne Road.
