Casey’S Bar And Grill Closes
Casey’s Bar and Grill, a North Monroe institution since 1946, closed Friday.
Owner Frank Lewis said it was a simple economic decision.
“We don’t have a enough revenues coming in to take care of our obligations,” said Lewis, who bought the restaurant in 1991. “It’s a sign of the changing times. People aren’t eating at family restaurants as much as they used to.”
Casey’s was opened by Kenneth “K.C.” Oxreider at its current location at 2126 N. Monroe. Oxreider owned a number of restaurants, including Casey’s Lunch on North Division, which he opened in 1933.
Casey’s Restaurant was owned by the Oxreider family until 1989.
While it had as many as 35 employees, the restaurant had 12 when it closed, Lewis said.
