Evergreen Valley Complex Will Expand By 72 Units

Owners of the Evergreen Valley retirement center are expanding again.

The retirement complex near the corner of Mission and Evergreen opened in June 1997 with one 12-unit building. Since then, Amercare Inc., which owns the complex, has added four more buildings

Now, Americare plans to add another 72 units on 2.5 acres south of the complex, between Evergreen and Mamer roads.

The plan is to build a two-level complex with 48 units and another 24-unit complex, said Evergreen Valley president Frank Rehn.

“This wasn’t in the original plans,” he said. “We do have a lot of inquiries from people who say, `I don’t have enough to buy one of the homes, but I would like to rent.”’

That’s the plan for this next phase.

The home prices range from around $85,000 to $130,000 for units measuring from 750 to more than 1,250 square feet in size.

Construction would more than likely begin in 2000, Rehn said.

Of the 42 homes currently on-site, 29 have been sold.

The retirement community is aimed at creating an upscale feel, with a community center, pool, hair salon, dining hall and library.

“It’s a personal home and they’re upscale homes,” Rehn said.

Spokane County planners have received no opposition to the rezone.

When the Evergreen Road freeway interchange is built, Evergreen will be widened to five lanes from the freeway to Sprague Avenue. To help Evergreen Valley residents avoid traffic congestion and confusion, the retirement complex will also have an entrance off Mamer Road.
