Letters To The Editor
Mariners should replace Fairly
I just want to say “thank you Don Hogeboom” for his letter in last Sunday’s paper (“Others should follow Sorensen”).
I am glad I’m not the only one who feels that way about Ron Fairly. He is, in my opinion, not even fairly good as a (radio/television) color man.
They should bring a fresh new kid up from college and let him do it. Or better yet, let me have that job. I know I would not bore every other listener. Jay B. Elsner Spokane
Cougars lose a supporter
After a lifetime of supporting WSU athletics, I have reached the end of my line. I can no longer support an organization of students that continually abuses taxpayers and donors. The final straw came when WSU announced it was hiring extra police for security at Cougars football games at a cost of $150,000. I would feel my support would be contributing to babysitting a bunch of imbeciles.
In December, I wrote to the student body president, Edward Prince. I pleaded with him to get a commitment from the entire student body that they would police themselves at athletic events and conduct themselves as young adults, with respect for the public that provides the billions of dollars to build and support their institution of higher education. I suggested a statewide boycott if they were not willing to make a commitment to that resolve.
I have not received a response to that reasonable request. The answer I did receive was a placard displayed at the final basketball game of the season, televised on FSN. The placard read: “We Will Riot.”
Should our tax dollars be supporting higher education, or the denigration of society and abuse of taxpayers? Tell these punks to “grow up or get out!” Tell our Legislators to be responsible with our tax dollars. We should not have to provide child care funding for adolescents.
Perhaps this school deserves its last-place finish in all three major sports. It is the only school to accomplish that feat in the history of the Pac-10. Allan LeTourneau Spokane
WHL playoff coverage appreciated
I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the coverage you provided on the WHL playoffs and the Memorial Cup. I found it very interesting to follow other teams in the league, even though the Spokane Chiefs fell short of a playoff run. Your daily playoff scoring update was efficient and easy to follow. Once again, thank you. Kristen Thomas Osburn, Idaho
Prayers for Owen Hart’s family
I have watched pro wrestling for 11 years, the same amount Owen Hart (Blue Blazer) has wrestled for WWF.
I respect the Hart family and what they’ve done for pro wrestling. I’ve followed Owen Hart’s career from his first match against Curt Hennig (Mr. Perfect) to his last match with Jeff Jarrett against Edge Christian and Gangrel.
I find it ironic the McMahons and the Harts had a personal war between the two families since the Survivor Series 1997. Vince McMahon vowed revenge on Owen in December ‘97 when he grabbed Vince by his $10,000 suit in front of a sold-out crowd.
I feel the Harts should sue Titan Sport Inc. And after watching Monday’s Raw is War, after the ringing of the bell and the tribute to Owen, wrestlers and employees such as Shane McMahon, Jeff Jarrett, Triple H, Mark Henry and others were in tears, but Vince was clapping and had a smile on his face. I don’t know if it was because of happiness Owen died and no more second generation Hart wrestlers in the WWF, or if it was the fact he was proud of the video he was narrating of Owen’s career. My prayers are with the legendary Hart family. James Tillett Spokane
