Esther Jones Spokane

Funeral Mass for Esther M. Jones, 78, is planned for 2 p.m. today at St. Anthony Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery.

Mrs. Jones, who was born in Wenatchee, died Thursday.

She worked for The Crescent department store book department for 18 years.

Mrs. Jones was a member of St. Anthony Parish and Altar Society.

Her husband of 40 years, Raymond, preceded her in death.

Survivors include her children, Rae Ellen Holland, Sharon Preston, Jocelyn Martin, Janet Davidson, Deborah, Stephen and Chris Jones, all of Spokane, and Marcia Eberhart of Greenacres, Paul Jones of Puyallup, Wash., and Barbara Jones of Seattle; 12 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Alberta O’Connell Spokane

Funeral for Alberta S. O’Connell, 77, will be at 10:30 a.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery.

A 24-year Spokane resident, Mrs. O’Connell died Wednesday. She was born in Chicago.

She had been a teacher for several years.

Her husband of 52 years, James, preceded her in death.

Survivors include three sons, James O’Connell of Chattanooga, Tenn., Barry O’Connell of Bozeman, Mont., and Brendan O’Connell of Granger, Wash.; two daughters, Patricia Ziegler of Gold River, Calif., and Molly Walchuk of Conway, Ark.; and 19 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or Birthright of Spokane.

Willard Ahrendt Spokane

Graveside service for Willard E. Ahrendt, 79, was Friday at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

Mr. Ahrendt, who was born in Camas, Wash., died June 1.

He served in the Army during World War II and later retired from working as a nursing assistant at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Spokane.

Survivors include two daughters, Billie Thomas of Spokane and Sharon Finney of Portland; a brother, Marvin Ahrendt of Vancouver, Wash.; nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Jerry Mitchell Spokane

Memorial service for Jerry Wallace Mitchell, a 16-year Spokane resident, was held May 29 at Zion Lutheran Church.

Mr. Mitchell, who was born in Chicago, died May 19. He was 56.

He worked for Allied Trailers in Spokane and as an assembler for Keytronic for many years.

Mr. Mitchell was active with Special Olympics.

Survivors include his wife, Elaine; three sons, Dan, John and Tim Mitchell, all of Spokane; two sisters of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Harold Oglesbee Spokane

No service will be held for Harold Oglesbee, 71, at his request.

Mr. Oglesbee, who died Wednesday, was born in Belfry, Mont.

He moved to Spokane in 1951 and worked as a meatcutter for Armour and Co. for many years, and later at various other meat packing plants.

His wife, Lorraine, died in 1995.

Survivors include two daughters, Kathleen Jenicke and Cynthia Dugger, and two sons, Dennis and Paul Oglesbee, all of Spokane; a sister; two brothers; and three grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or to the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

Doris Redford Spokane

No service will be held for Doris B. Redford, 85, at her request. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Wilbur, Wash., Mrs. Redford died Wednesday. She was a 69-year Spokane resident.

Mrs. Redford retired from the food service industry and had worked with Northwest Airlines. She later worked at Rockwood Manor.

She is survived by a son, Dennis Redford of Spokane; three grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

Edna Chamberlain Medical Lake

Funeral for Edna A. Chamberlain, 89, will be at 2 p.m. today at Cheney Funeral Chapel. Burial will be at the Fairview Cemetery in Cheney.

A 12-year Medical Lake resident, Mrs. Chamberlain died Friday. She was born in Gravette, Ark.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Wilburn Wilson, died in 1968.

Survivors include two sons, Leon Wilson of Soap Lake, Wash., and James Shaw of New Mexico; three daughters, Irene Harris of Medical Lake, Louise Gaiche of Rodgers, Ark., and Pat Milner of Greenacres; a sister, Mary Ward of Silt, Colo.; 25 grandchildren, 56 great-grandchildren and 26 great-great-grandchildren.

Bernice Holliday Spokane

Memorial service for Bernice Holliday, a longtime Spokane resident, will be at 6:30 p.m. today at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Mrs. Holliday, who was born in Sandpoint, died Thursday. She was 83.

She worked at the Manito Pharmacy for 20 years and was very active with the COPS Southeast for several years.

Her husband, Harry Holliday, died in 1989.

Survivors include two sons, Douglas Brockway of Spokane and Roger Brockway of Durham, Ore.; a brother, Walter Senn of Spokane; and three grandsons.

Raymond Evans Spokane

Memorial service for Raymond Charles Evans, 74, will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.

Mr. Evans, who was a lifetime Spokane resident, died Friday.

He graduated from North Central High School and served in the Navy during World War II. Mr. Evans retired as a senior master sergeant with the Air Force after 15 years.

Mr. Evans retired from the Civil Service.

He was a 25-year member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1435.

Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Viola; two daughters, Pamela Roybal of Newman Lake and Elizabeth Sparlin of Spokane; two sons, Douglas Evans of Spokane and Dan Evans of Auburn, Wash.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Phyllis Schmidt Spokane

Graveside service for Phyllis F. Schmidt, 74, will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Holy Cross Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 48-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Schmidt died June 1. She was born in Devils Lake, N.D.

Mrs. Schmidt had worked as a food demonstrator at retail food stores in Spokane for several years.

She was an active volunteer with the Sinto Senior Center and Catholic Family Senior Services.

Survivors include a son, Anthony Schmidt of Walla Walla; a brother, William Novak of Twin Falls, Idaho; and two grandchildren.

Harry Krevenko Kellogg

Graveside service for Harry Krevenko, 81, will be Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Greenwood Cemetery in Kellogg. Shoshone Funeral Service in Kellogg is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Krevenko, who was born in Canada, died Wednesday.

He grew up in the Silver Valley, where he was a longtime resident and worked as a handyman.

Survivors include three sisters, Zona Dan of Spokane, Pauline Grant of California and Katie; and several nieces and nephews.

Frances Knaff Spokane

Funeral for Frances Edith Knaff, 87, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

Mrs. Knaff, who was born in Minneapolis, died Wednesday.

She was raised in Seattle, where she cultivated her musical talent.

Mrs. Knaff moved to Spokane in 1945, where she was a musician for 38 years. She also was a homemaker.

She had been a member of the Spokane Musician’s Association Local 105 since 1955 and an active member of the Democratic party.

Survivors include a son, Bruce Brown of Seattle; two daughters, Christine Knaff of Spokane and Sharyn Rose White of California; seven grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Clifford Hawkins Spokane

Memorial service for Clifford Everett Hawkins, 88, will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Hawkins died Tuesday.

He served in the Armed Forces during World War II and later worked in the banking industry for many years.

There are no surviving family members.

Elizabeth Zook Post Falls

No service will be held for Elizabeth Jane Zook, 63, at her request. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Zook, who was born in Milton-Freewater, Ore., died May 31.

She married C.A. “Tiny” Zook in 1956 and they settled in Post Falls. She was a homemaker and an artist who taught ceramics and served as a ceramics judge at local fairs.

She was active as a community volunteer with the Post Falls Haunted House, the Miss Post Falls Pageant and the city of Post Falls float, was a Boy Scout leader and a member of the Post Falls Public Safety Commission.

Survivors include her husband; two sons, Rob and Mike Zook, both of Post Falls; her mother, Doris “Dot” Crowley; three sisters, Sharon Smith of Hayden Lake, Idaho, Tim Coon of Mead and Kit Hoffer of Post Falls; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Jeannette (Clarke) Tibbits Spokane

No service will be held for Jeannette (Clarke) Tibbits, 91, at her request. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Tibbits who died May 31, was born in Portland.

She was raised in Yakima and graduated high school there.

Mrs. Tibbits attended the University of Washington, where she was a member of the Gamma Phi Beta sorority. She also attended Ellensburg Normal School.

She taught in the Seattle School District and then for the Spokane School District for several years during World War II.

Mrs. Tibbits also worked in the insurance industry for 66 years with her husband, Harwood Tibbits, Sr.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Harwood Tibbits of Spokane; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Jack Sampson Spokane

Funeral service for Jack A. Sampson, a longtime Spokane resident, will be at 1 p.m. Friday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Private inurnment will be at Pines Cemetery.

Born in Spokane, Mr. Sampson died May 29. He was 74.

He served in the Coast Guard during World War II.

Mr. Sampson worked as an electrical engineer for 38 years before retiring from Kaiser Aluminum Trentwood in 1986.

He had been in Sun City for the past few months.

Survivors include his wife, Jean; a daughter, Jacquelyn Washburn, and a son, Scott Sampson, both of Spokane; two stepsons, Douglas and Thomas McIntyre, both of Spokane; a sister, Ruth Pritchard of Cranbrook, British Columbia; a brother, Steve Sampson of Viola, Idaho; six grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Kristine Lindhag Spokane

Private service will be held for Kristine Kay Lindhag.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Miss Lindhag died Wednesday. She was 46.

Survivors include her mother, Jeanne Lindhag, and a sister, Sheri Hajjar, both of Spokane; and a brother, David Lindhag of Almira, Wash.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Special Olympics.

Howard Warren Deer Park

Graveside memorial service for Howard E. Warren, 89, will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

A longtime Deer Park resident, Mr. Warren died Dec. 19. He was born in Centralia, Ill.

He served in the Navy during World War II, and in 1947 married Kristin Hedstrom.

Mr. Warren retired from working as a welder and a gunsmith.

He was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association, a member of the Northwest Plumbing and Pipefitters Union, and a charter member of the Spokane Gun Club.

His wife died in 1991.

Survivors include two daughters, Darlene Thomas of Prosser, Wash., Judith Wessling of Sandoval, Ill.; two sisters, Irma Onn of Fort Collins, Colo., and Nancy St. Clair of Eureka Springs, Ark.; seven grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.

Vera Diehr Coeur d’Alene

Private service for Vera Irene Diehr, 81, was Wednesday at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home. Burial was at Coeur d’Alene Memorial Gardens.

Mrs. Diehr, who was born in a bomb shelter in London, England, died Tuesday.

She grew up in England, and served with the Women’s Auxiliary of the Royal Air Force during World War II.

In 1943 she married John Diehr. Mrs. Diehr arrived in the United States on a hospital ship in 1945 and became a citizen in 1950.

She lived in various places throughout the world during her husband’s military career before moving to Coeur d’Alene in 1997.

Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Adrienne Diehr of Austin, Texas, and Penelope Higgins of Hayden Lake, Idaho; and one grandson.

Patricia Fulwiler Spokane

Private burial for Patricia Fulwiler, 79, will be held at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Fulwiler died Wednesday.

She was a homemaker, a longtime member of the Spokane Racquet Club and was an avid tennis player until age 77.

Her husband, Howard, died in 1994.

Survivors include a daughter, Kathleen Kloster of Spokane; and one grandson.

William Lukenbill Spokane

A memorial gathering for William J. Lukenbill, a longtime Spokane area resident, will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at his home.

Mr. Lukenbill, who was born in Gold Creek, Mont., died Thursday. He was 74.

He served in the Army from 1943 to 1946, and was a self-employed carpenter and roofer for many years.

Survivors include five sons, Bill, Bob, Don, Mike and Terry, and one daughter, Carol, all of Spokane; four sisters, Alba and Mona, both of Spokane, Lois of Moses Lake and Mary of Wenatchee; 12 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
