Beating Suspect, 16, Returned To Spokane

From Staff

One of two teenagers suspected of beating a 68-year-old Spokane Valley woman and stealing her car has been extradited to Spokane, sheriff’s deputies said.

The 16-year-old boy was booked into the Spokane County juvenile detention center on Monday. He is being held on a Ferry County rape warrant and a local probation violation charge.

He and a 14-year-old boy were arrested near Hayden Lake, Idaho, Thursday night driving the woman’s stolen Oldsmobile.

Spokane County sheriff’s detectives believe the two broke into the woman’s house near 10th and University on Thursday night intending to rob her. They beat her when she confronted them, police believe, then stole her car.

The 14-year-old boy remained in custody in Idaho on Monday but is expected to be sent to Spokane later this week.

The pair, who lived at the same group home in Cheney, have not yet been charged in the attack and robbery of the Valley woman.
