Thomas Kearns Spokane

Funeral Mass for Thomas Claire Kearns, 87, was Monday at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church.

Mr. Kearns, who was born in Benton, Wis., died Friday.

He graduated from Benton High School in 1929 and from the University of Notre Dame in 1933. He graduated from the Pacific Coast School of Banking in 1960.

Mr. Kearns worked as a tax analyst and accountant for the Farm Credit Administration in Spokane from 1933 until 1946, when he began working for the Spokane branch of Seattle First National Bank. He worked as a financial consultant, senior commercial loan officer and vice president before retiring in 1976. He also worked as a small loans consultant for the Small Business Administration.

Mr. Kearns was a board member of the Northwest Life Assurance Co. of America for 20 years and served as a member and past chairman of the board of regents at Fort Wright College from 1966 until 1975. He also was a past president, treasurer and board member of the Industrial Development Corp. and was past treasurer and board member of Occupational Enterprises Inc.

Mr. Kearns was a member of the Spokane Area Chamber of Commerce, St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, the Notre Dame Club and the Manito Golf and Country Club and was a charter member of the Spokane Chapter of Big Brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Dorothy; two daughters, Elizabeth Kearns and Barbara Chisholm, both of Spokane; and two grandsons.

Ollie `Babe’ Boisard Deer Park

Memorial service for Ollie K. “Babe” Boisard, a longtime Spokane County resident, will be at noon Monday at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church in Spokane. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Boisard, who was born in Redlodge, Mont., died Wednesday. She was 71.

She worked as a grocery clerk for many years.

Her husband of 51 years, Jean Boisard, died in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Lori Ewing of Deer Park; and a sister, June Peters of Los Angeles.

Jacomina Fairweather Spokane

Private service for Jacomina M. Fairweather will be held. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Fairweather, who was born in Holland, died Saturday. She was 83.

She immigrated to the United States in 1946 and moved to Spokane.

Mrs. Fairweather worked as a seamstress at Lubins Women’s Apparel in Spokane for many years. She retired in 1979.

Survivors include her husband of 53 years, George; and a sister-in-law, Jean Gould, and a nephew, Glenn Cooper, both of Anchorage, Alaska.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Gertrude Bostwick Spokane

Memorial service for Gertrude Bostwick, 82, will be at 1 p.m. today at Heritage Congregational Church. Private burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Bostwick, who was born in Swift Current, Saskatchewan, died Friday.

She served in the Canadian Nurse Corps in England and Europe during World War II.

In 1949 she married Wallace Bostwick.

Mrs. Bostwick was one of the first public health nurses in Spokane County.

She was a member of Heritage Congregational Church.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Lorne Bostwick of Needham, Mass.; two daughters, Diane Bostwick of Seattle and Moira Bradish of Traverse City, Mich.; a brother, Dennis Utley of Victoria, British Columbia; and four grandchildren.

Helen Kennedy Spokane

Funeral for Helene M. Kennedy, 84, will be at 1 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Kennedy, who died Thursday, was born in Sterling, Colo. She was a 48-year Spokane resident.

In 1950 she married Glen Kennedy. He died in 1971.

Mrs. Kennedy taught in Richland and for School District 81 for many years.

Survivors include three brothers, the Rev. Howard Hammelmann of Fresno, Calif., John Hammelmann of Mission, Texas, and William Hammelmann of Lincoln, Neb.; and two sisters, Ruth Poppe of Blue Springs, Mo., and Miriam Scherer of Fond du Lac, Wis.

Janet Hutton Colville, Wash.

No service will be held for Janet M. Hutton, 80, at her request. Danekas Funeral Home in Colville is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Hutton, who was born in Linnton, Ore., died Saturday.

She attended schools in Portland, until moving to Vancouver, Wash., in the early 1930s. She graduated from Vancouver High School with honors in 1934 and then attended Washington State College.

In 1941 she married George Hutton. They moved to various locations throughout the United States before settling in Colville in 1974.

Mrs. Hutton was a homemaker. She donated numerous books to the Chewelah (Wash.) Public Library and was active in many civic and church affairs.

Survivors include her husband; and a sister, Virginia Heily of Bellingham.

O.M. Kimmel Jr. Spokane

Graveside service for O.M. Kimmel, Jr., a former Deer Park resident, will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Woodland Cemetery in Deer Park. Lauer Funeral Home in Deer Park is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Deer Park, Mr. Kimmel died Friday. He was 77.

He served as treasurer, secretary and trustee of Leuthold Foundation Inc. for 51 years. He retired in 1997.

Mr. Kimmell was a member of the Deer Park City Council, a past master and member of the Deer Park Eagles Lodge No. 134 and a member of the Knights of the Rose Croix.

Survivors include a daughter, Jari Evarts of Spokane; a son, Kerry Kimmel of Great Falls, Mont.; and two granddaughters.

Della Carosella Spokane

Memorial service for Della Carosella, 81, will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Heights Congregational Church. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Carosella died Thursday.

She was a cook at the Davenport Hotel, the Desert Hotel and the Shack Restaurant before she began working as a cook for Spokane School District 81 at Grant Elementary.

Mrs. Carosella later worked as a matron at Sacajawea Junior High School for several years. She retired from the district in 1977.

She served as president of the Glenrose School Board and was a 50-year member of Lincoln Heights Congregational Church and the Glenrose Women’s Club.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Phil; two sons, Paul and Michael Carosella, and a daughter, Patricia Rolland, all of Spokane; and eight grandchildren.

Daniel Schonberger Spokane

Funeral for Daniel Frederick Schonberger, 52, will be at 10 a.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mr. Schonberger, who was born in Seattle, died Friday.

He graduated from North Central High School in 1965 and served in the Navy for two years during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Schonberger had worked as a engineer for Burlington Northern Railroad for the past 30 years.

Survivors include his wife, Paulette; a daughter, Kimberly Osso, and a son, Jeff Schonberger, both of Spokane; two sisters, Jo Ann West of Seattle and Susan Streeter of Kent, Wash.; a brother, Curt Schonberger of Boise; and one grandson.

Wilene Bailey St. Maries

Service for Wilene A. Bailey, 76, was Monday at the St. Maries Assembly of God Church. Burial followed at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Mrs. Bailey, who was born in Garfield, Wash., died Friday.

She grew up in various cities in Washington and Idaho.

In 1937 she married Hulet Bailey. They lived near Emida, Idaho.

Mrs. Bailey later moved to Elk River, Idaho, and was a homemaker. She moved to St. Maries in 1968.

She received a nursing degree from North Idaho College in 1970 and worked for the Good Samaritan Nursing Home in Fairfield before retiring in 1988.

Mrs. Bailey was a member of the St. Maries Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include her husband; a daughter, Joan Courtway of Oakesdale, Wash.; a sister, Lois Allread of Los Angeles; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Margret Torvie Bloomington, Ind.

Graveside service for Margret J. Torvie, a former longtime Spokane resident, was Monday at Fairmount Memorial Park.

Mrs. Torvie, who was born in Starbuck, Minn., died June 2. She was 83.

She graduated from St. Olaf College in Northfield, Minn., in 1936.

Mrs. Torvie was a former state supervisor for the State of Washington Department of Social and Health Services.

She moved to Bloomington several years ago, where she was a member of St. Thomas Lutheran Church Her husband, Arthur, preceded her in death.

Survivors include a daughter, Judy Torvie of Bloomington; and a brother, Gerald Peterson of Williston, N.D.
