Paige, Leonard Honored

Walter “Buck” Leonard and Leroy “Satchel” Paige were named the greatest Negro League figures in a survey conducted by the Society for American Baseball Research.

About 100 Negro League historians, researchers and authors took part in the poll for SABR, a Clevelandbased non-profit organization dedicated to promoting the study of baseball.

Leonard was a first baseman with the Homestead Grays, while Paige pitched for the Pittsburgh Crawfords.
