Hare’S 13 Strikeouts Lead Blue Devils By North Stars

The Blue Devils spun a Hare-raising tale in Wednesday’s Ameri can Legion Senior baseball play.

Steve Hare pitched a five-hitter and struck out 13 to guide the Blue Devils to a 6-3 win over the North Stars at Whitworth College.

Hare’s catcher, his brother Justin, hit a three-run homer in the third inning for a 5-0 lead.

The North Stars’ Nick Scott hit a two-run double in the sixth.

Both teams entered with 1-0 records, the last perfect marks in the six-team league.

Also in Wednesday’s play, the Cannons (2-1) swept Pullman 6-0 and 5-0 at Jackson Field.

Eric Biesen of the Cannons pitched a complete game in the opener. He struck out five and allowing three singles, all to John Kriebel. Chris Hilsabeck doubled twice and had four RBIs.

Josh Bauch of the Cannons pitched a complete-game four-hitter in the second game, striking out four. Steve Henderson and Joey Binder had two RBIs apiece. Matt Gylling and Nick Paulson of Pullman (0-2) were both 2 for 3.

Eric Everson struck out 11 in six innings, leading the Bandits (2-1) to a 10-2 win over the Royals (0-2) at Gonzaga University.

Josh Shelton and Jon Spear were both 2 for 4 for the Bandits. Adam Oakley and Kenny Florence scored two runs apiece. The Royals’ Richard Schram went 2 for 3.
