Corixa Corp. plans to buy medical research company Ribi ImmunoChem Research Inc. for $56.3 million in cash and stock. Ribi employs about 115 people in Hamilton, Mont. Ribi and the Seattle-based Corixa research treatment and prevention of disease through vaccines and other products.

Northwest Airlines and its flight attendants reached a tentative agreement on a five-year contract Thursday, averting a threatened strike against the nation’s fourth- largest airline.
