Rev. Rod Burgess Wellpinit, Wash.

Funeral for the Rev. Rod A. Burgess, 76, will be 10 a.m. today at the Wellpinit Longhouse. Burial will follow at Wellpinit Presbyterian Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A longtime Wellpinit resident, Rev. Burgess died Tuesday. He was born in Amity, Mo.

He was a chaplain with the Veterans of Foreign Wars in Wellpinit for several years.

Rev. Burgess was member of the Assembly of God Church for 35 years, and pastored with the church for 22 years.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Della; two daughters, Linda Wahl of Priest River, Idaho, and Becky Hudspeth of Wellpinit; two sons, Gary Ervin of Renton, Wash., and Roddy Burgess of Lodi, Calif.; four brothers, Jack Burgess of Atascadero, Calif., Joe Burgess of Imbler, Ore., Delbert Burgess of Fairfield, Calif., and Bud Burgess of Florida; 13 grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Bethel (Lidstone) Roskam Spokane

Memorial service for Bethel (Lidstone) Roskam, 88, will be at 1 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home.

Mrs. Roskam, who was born in Walla Walla, died Thursday.

She graduated from Walla Walla High School, Cheney Normal School and Kinman Business University.

Mrs. Roskam worked for the City of Spokane traffic engineering department for 18 years. She retired in 1971.

She was a member of Grace Baptist Church since 1936, a member of the Daughters of the Nile, El Karnak Temple Electra Chapter 20 and the Order of Eastern Star.

Survivors include a son, Calvin Lidstone, and a daughter Julie Barringer, both of Spokane; three grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Memorial contributions may be made to Grace Baptist Church.

Carl Manzano Loon Lake

Funeral for Carl J. Manzano, 30, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Calvary Chapel. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-North is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Manzano died Monday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident in north Spokane County.

He was born in San Diego and came to Spokane in 1980. He attended Shadle Park High School.

He later returned to San Diego and graduated from high school with honors.

Mr. Manzano received a full academic scholarship to Gonzaga University and returned to Spokane.

He later became a plumber and owned Astro Mechanical.

Mr. Manzano coached the Loon Lake youth soccer team for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Michelle; three daughters, Makayla, Lexie and Jade, all at home; his mother and stepfather, Deborah and Hugh Kelly of Spokane; his father, Carlos Manzano of San Diego; two brothers, Justin Medina and Christopher Kelly, both of Spokane; three sisters, Greta Clark, Stephanie Riddle and Courtney Kelly, all of Spokane; and his grandparents, Katherine Flores of Spokane, Jesus Manzano of San Diego and Ralph Stansberry of Montana.

John Kirk Rockford

Visitation for John W. Kirk, 88, will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and Sunday at Riplinger Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 10 a.m. Monday at Spokane Memorial Gardens.

A 60-year Spokane County resident, Mr. Kirk died Wednesday. He was born in Lincoln County, Neb.

Mr. Kirk worked in bridge construction for many years and was a member of the Carpenters Union Local 98.

His wife, Iola Kirk, died in 1997.

Survivors include a daughter, Janet Owens of Valleyford; two sons, Robert Kirk of Coulee City, Wash., and Gordon Kirk of Colbert; a brother, George Kirk of Beatrice, Neb.; a sister, Mamie Williams of Hill City, Neb.; seven grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

Ann Benjamin Spokane

Graveside service for Ann L. Benjamin, 97, is planned for 10 a.m. Monday at the Newport (Wash.) Cemetery. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Benjamin, who was born in San Francisco, died Tuesday.

She lived in Pasco for several years before moving to Newport in 1951.

In 1988 she moved to the North Central Care Center in Spokane.

Mrs. Benjamin was a homemaker.

Her first husband, Wesley Delaney, died in 1931. Her second husband, Ray Benjamin, died in 1978.

Survivors include a son, James Delaney of Tucson, Ariz.; 10 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 19 great-great-grandchildren and one great-great-great-grandchild.

Betty Hillman Phoenix

Memorial service for Betty B. Hillman, a former 50-year Spokane resident, will be at 2:30 p.m. Sunday at Driscoll Boulevard Baptist Church in Spokane.

Mrs. Hillman, who was born in Muskogee, Okla., died April 28. She was 83.

She was office manager for the Washington Department of Health Services’ Developmental Disabilities Division in Spokane for many years.

Mrs. Hillman was a member of Driscoll Baptist Church.

She moved to Phoenix several years ago.

Survivors include a daughter, Mary Ault of Phoenix; a son, Brad Hillman of Littleton, Colo.; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Frank Costanzo Spokane

Vigil for Frank F. Costanzo, 85, will be at 7 p.m. Monday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Funeral Mass is planned for 9 a.m. Tuesday at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church.

Mr. Costanzo, who was born in Deer Park, died Wednesday.

He graduated from North Central High School.

He served in the Army during World War II in China, Burma and India.

Mr. Costanzo owned and operated several automotive and recreational vehicle businesses in the Spokane area.

He was a member of Our Lady of Fatima Catholic Church and the American Italian Club.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth; two daughters, Tina Cronin of Spokane and Vicki Costanzo of Burbank, Calif.; three sisters, Emily Mosso and Minnie Roger, both of Spokane, and Leane Giovanni of Pittsburgh; and three grandchildren.

William Cassady Spokane

Funeral service for William Eugene Cassady, 50, was Thursday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Cassady died June 4.

He worked as an electronic specialist for Bullseye in Spokane for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Gaynelle.

Dennis Toner Chattaroy

Funeral for Dennis R. “Denny” Toner, 52, will be at 2 p.m. Monday at St. Charles Catholic Church in Spokane. Bleitz Funeral Home in Bellevue, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Chattaroy resident, Mr. Toner died Tuesday.

He served in the military for six years during the Vietnam War.

Mr. Toner worked for the Keller Supply Co. for six years.

He was a lifetime member of the Elk Chapter of the Veterans of Foreign Wars and was a member and served as president of the Deer Park Eagles Lodge .

Survivors include his wife of 20 years, Kathy; two daughters, Kristy Toner and M’Lissa Rutherford; two sons, Mark and Shawn Toner; two sisters, Darlene Griffith and Diane Pitts; a brother, Larry Toner; and three grandchildren.

Vance McCarty Spokane

Funeral Mass for Vance McCarty, 88, will be at 9 a.m. today at St. Aloysius Catholic Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will be in Seattle.

A 70-year Spokane resident, Mr. McCarty died Wednesday. He was born in Vancouver, British Columbia.

Mr. McCarty worked in the mining industry for several years.

Survivors include his wife, Hisako; two sons; four daughters; a brother, Jerry McCarty of Seattle; 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Scott Andrews Spokane

No service will be held for Scott A. “Andy” Andrews, 61. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

Born and raised in Erie, Pa., Mr. Andrews, died Thursday.

He served in the Air Force during the Vietnam War, retiring from Fairchild Air Force Base in 1978 after 24 years.

He married his wife, Sue, in 1989.

Survivors include his wife; a son, Scott Andrews II of Seattle; a daughter, Cassandra Johnson of Virginia; two stepdaughters, Thama and Devin Bennett, both of Spokane; a brother, Raymond Andrews of Canton, Ohio; a sister, Wilma Wood of Harbor Creek, Pa.; and one grandchild.
