Commission To Interview Sheriff’S Candidates

The three men vying to replace Pierce Clegg as Kootenai County sheriff will be interviewed by county commissioners Tuesday morning.

The interviews will begin at 9 a.m. and each will last 30 minutes. They will be conducted in the lower level of the county administration building and are open to the public.

After the interviews, one of the three candidates will be selected, Commissioner Ron Rankin said.

The new sheriff will serve the remainder of Clegg’s term. If he chooses to seek a full term, he would have to run for election in November 2000.

The candidates are Coeur d’Alene Police Capt. Carl Bergh, security agency owner Rocky Watson and North Idaho College law enforcement instructor Tad Leach.

In submitting his resignation last month, Clegg cited personal reasons and the desire to help the department make a smooth transition to new leadership.
