Valley Flash Team Now At Highest Level

The Spokane Valley Flash, a 17U soccer team, completed play June 12-13 in Redmond to reach the Washington Premier League’s highest level.

By beating Tri Cities and Burien 2-0 after losing 4-1 to Kitsap, the girls team moved from Premier 2 into Premier 1 which consists of the best eight teams in state.

Team members from Central Valley High are Jamie Danelo, Raeanna Jewell, Stacey Stangland and Jesse Torres.

University High players are Ashley Bachmeier, Lacie Dahnke, Kara Jordan, Wren Moore, Katie Morton and Tasha Warwick.

From East Valley are Tiera Como and Kris Perry,` and from West Valley is Jessic Huntley.

Other team members are Kim Cathcart, Liz Hale and Carly Sartz. Coaches are Greg Torres and Paul Danelo.

Valley Girls Softball begins

First week of Spokane Valley Girls Softball saw its share of perfect starts.

Stoneway Electric, which got a grand slam home run from Heidi Decker and 3-for-3 performance from Ashlee Martinez opened 18U play with a pair of wins.

Two other teams won their openers, including Sir Speedy which got six runs batted in and a four-strikeout effort by pitcher Christy Johnson during a 22-16 victory over Dr. Benage.

In the 14U league, two teams got off to 3-0 starts, American Linen and United Coating.

American Linen’s Brittany Sweet doubled in the winning runs of a 14-13 victory over Baker Construction.

Sweet also went 5-for-5 with one of the team’s six doubles against Award Masters.

During the team’s opener, the team hit three more doubles and a triple. Brandy Williams drove in five runs.

Six teams, three each in the 12U League’s two divisions, won two games apiece.

Leading the American Division are Dairy Queen, Arby’s and Dave’s Automotive.

DQ’s Katie Fuchs and Jacklyn Riordan each hit a double and triple and scored six times during a 16-0 shutout. Linse Vlahovich struck out six in two innings.

Ashly Reinland and Kayli Contreras hit triples and Alicia Crowley added offense and pitching punch in the team’s second win.

National Division unbeatens are Kim Hotstart, Aluteck and Valley Kiwanis.

Unbeaten in three games each are Greenacres Chiropractic and Conley’s in the 10U League.

Greenacres’ Katie Nagle hit a grand slam home run, a solo homer and made an unassisted double play in one game. She hit a two-run triple in the other.

Pitchers Steven Carson and Megan Fitzpatrick allowed but a run and three hits against McDonald’s.

In other games, Homeplate Grill’s Jenessa Miller pitched three innings and hit a grand slam homer.

Ashlee Valkenaar’s two-run homer brought Hitchcock Construction to a tie with SMC World of Products.

Hangman guests play team event

A team yellow ball golf event was play of the day for Hangman Valley Ladies Golf Club members and their guests.

The team of Linda Begler, Gloria Cash, Carol Schultz and Janet Skaife shot a net 71, three strokes lower than runnersup Pat Coon, Dottie Blosser, Margaret Brashears and Ella Leinwebber.

Medalists for the outing were Begler and Deanna Smith with low gross 84s in A flight. Kathy Schneider shot 90 in B, and Susan Crosby hd 119 in C.

Net winners were Cash at 72 in A flight, Joyce Ranniger with 71 in B. Kathy Thiesen led C and Delores Bridwell led D, both with 80.

Painted Hills birdie crazy

There were birdies aplenty during last week’s competition among Painted Hills Ladies Club golfers.

Three members, Carol McVicker, Betty Snow and Sharon Meier all had birdies on separate holes.

McVicker chipped in for a bird on No. 14. Snow’s on 15 helped her to low B flight gross score of 50. Meier got hers on the par 5 17th hole.

Leaders included Carolyn Geiger in A with a 45, Pam Baynes in C with 56 and Shawna Ferguson in D with 64. Betty Grassl had no-handicap 59.

Net leaders were Debra Burks with 30 in A flight, Sheri Potts with 34 in B, Barb Ayers with 35 in C and Kathy Byrne with 31 in D.

Jeanne Ellig had a chip-in on 13.

Harshbarger wins President’s Cup

Valley View Ladies Club golfer Peg Harshbarger captured this year’s President’s Cup upon completion of the best two of three outings.

Harshbarger finished with a net 57, finishing ahead of Deanna Hauser’s 61.

Flight winners included Dee Elder with 62 in A, Frieda Lemon with 63 in B and Florence Keller with 68 in D, one stroke ahead of Kay Pritzl.

During the weeking outing, Marian Barham and Tammy Adams shot 47s in A flight, which included an Adams chip-in on the 15th hole. Hauser netted 30.

In B flight Lemon and Harshbarger shot 53 while Emma Long netted 33.

C flight went to Keller and Pritzl with 65s and Melba Farrar netted 37.

Two new golfers competed in no handicap, Charlie Gonzales and Mary Tyner. Gonzales shot low gross 46. Dee Elder had a chip-in on the seventh hole.

Medal play at Liberty Lake

Scoring was close during last week’s Liberty Lake Ladies 9-Hole Club golf competition.

Nancy Lampe shot 57 in A flight, Marian Barham had 59 in B and Cindy Steiner shot 60 in C. D flight winner was Jean Skredsvig with 70.

Net winners were Arla Beck with 41 in A, Deanna Hauser with 37 in B, Cheryl Schwahn with 36 in C and Joan Koppe with 41 in D.

Next week is second leg of the club President’s Cup.
