John Kieffer Fruitland, Wash.

Memorial service and rosary for John G. Kieffer, a Spokane Tribe leader will be at 7 p.m. today at the West End Community Center, West End Spokane Indian Reservation. Funeral service is planned for 10 a.m. Tuesday at the community center. Burial will follow at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Cemetery on the reservation. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Kieffer, who was born in Nespelem, Wash., died Thursday in Spokane. He was 53.

He moved to Fruitland at a young age. He served as a tribal police officer on the reservation for 13 years. In 1987, he was asked to fill a vacancy on the Spokane Tribe Business Council, and in 1990, he became a founding member of the National Indian Gaming Association. He was currently vice chairman of the Spokane Tribe.

Survivors include his wife, Kathryn; two sons, Chuck and Danny Kieffer, both on the reservation; a daughter, Cheryl Kieffer of Spokane; three brothers, Billy and Rob Kieffer, both on the Reservation, and Joe Kieffer of Fruitland; and eight grandchildren.

Stella Zangar Spokane

Memorial Mass for Stella Zangar, 90, will be at 11:30 a.m. today at St. Charles Catholic Church. Private burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A 45-year Spokane resident, Miss Zangar, died Thursday. She was born in Sprague, Wash.

She worked for Spokane Trunk and Grip and later became a partner.

Miss Zangar was a charter member of Zonta International and the Spokane Club.

She is survived by a brother, Carl Zangar of Richland; and a sister, Grace Tonani of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane, SpokAnimal Care or St. Charles Catholic Church.

Frances Swanson Sandpoint

Service for Frances Laura Swanson, 89, will be at 11 a.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Sandpoint. Burial will follow at Seneacquoteen Cemetery near Sandpoint. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Swanson, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

She graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane, and worked in the business field in the Spokane/Greenacres area. She also lived in Edmonton, Alberta, for a brief period and worked for an oil company.

Mrs. Swanson moved to Sandpoint 25 years ago. She was successful in business and was active in the Democratic party.

Survivors include two sisters, Margaret Storer of Spokane and AnnaBelle Brewer of Twisp, Wash.; two brothers, Conrad Westerman of Spokane and Rudolph Schade of Twisp; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Diane Husted Spokane

Memorial service for Diane G. Husted, 55, will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at St. Anne’s Catholic Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.

A 41-year Spokane resident, Miss Husted, died Thursday. She was born in Kewanee, Ill.

Survivors include her mother, Helen Husted of Norman, Okla.; four brothers, Loren Husted of Tumwater, Wash., Richard Husted of Los Alamos, N.M., Charles Husted of Auburndale, Fla., and Bill Husted of Las Vegas; and a sister, Lois Edwards of Lexington, Okla.

Dawn Hunt Portland

Memorial service for Dawn Marie Hunt, 23, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Spokane. Ms. Hunt, who was born in Spokane, died Saturday.

In Spokane, she worked as a certified nursing assistant and as a flagger for Renco Contracting Inc.

Ms. Hunt moved to Portland a few months ago.

Survivors include a daughter, Racheal Casselberry of Reardan, Wash.; a brother, Edward Hunt of Otis Orchards; two sisters, Misty Hunt of Otis Orchards and Michelle Hunt of Spokane; two half-sisters, Tina and Sheri Hunt; two half-brothers, Sean and Scott McDaniel; her mother, Jan Hunt of Oldtown, Idaho; her father, Ed Hunt of Otis Orchards; and her grandmother, Elaine Benshoof of Spokane.
