A Senate committee voted Wednesday in favor of a voluntary passenger rights proposal by the nation’s airlines. The airlines committed themselves to telling passengers of the lowest fares available, providing prompt ticket refunds and informing passengers of known flight delays and cancellations.

Chevron Corp. will cut 2,500 jobs - about 1,500 more than it said last year - as it struggles to combat falling oil prices and compete with merging rivals.

The German automaker Volkswagen AG has begun exploring the possibility of making a takeover offer for Swedish commercial vehicle maker Scania AB, the Berlin Financial Times reported Wednesday.

Florsheim Group’s chief executive has resigned from the shoe company after being accused of entertaining mistresses at a corporate apartment and having sex in Florsheim-leased limousines. Charles J. Campbell, 54, stepped down Tuesday, six weeks after a former assistant filed a lawsuit accusing him of the sexual misdeeds. Campbell denied the allegations at the company’s annual meeting last month.
