Walden Chambers Spokane
Funeral for Walden G. “Wally” Chambers, 87, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Spokane Masonic Temple. Graveside service will follow at 3 p.m. at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A longtime Spokane resident, Mr. Chambers died Monday. He was born in Cheney.
He graduated from Cheney High School in 1930 and was a golden grad from Washington State College, where he earned a degree in chemical engineering in 1935. He was also a member of the Theta Chi fraternity and a member of both Tau Beta Pi engineering and Phi Lambda Upsilon chemistry honorary societies.
In 1936 he began his 50-year career with Drumheller Analytical Laboratories in Spokane, first as an analytical chemist and eventually as the owner.
He married Edith Cross in 1937. She died in 1989. He later married Blanche Herron.
Mr. Chambers was very active in the Masonic Lodge. He joined Temple Lodge No. 42 in Cheney in 1940. He served as Patron of the Grand Chapter, Worthy Patron of Martha Chapter No. 60 of the Order of Eastern Star, Monarch of Sadir Khan Grotto, Wise Master of Chapter Rose Croix, and was a 33rd Degree Mason.
He was also a member of the York Rite Royal Order of Scotland and Past Sovereign Red Cross Constantine. In addition he served as both president and treasurer of the downtown Spokane Masonic Temple Board for 25 years.
Mr. Chambers was a member of the Downtown Rotary Club, served on the board of the East Spokane Water District No. 1 for 22 years and was a member of the Westminster Congregational United Church of Christ.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Virginia McKibben of Walla Walla; a son, Tom Herron of Lexington, Ky.; 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Dora King Fairfield
Funeral for Dora King, 93, is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at Fairfield Presbyterian Church. Graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Tahoma Cemetery in Yakima. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Fairfield is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Winthrop, Wash., Mrs. King died Friday.
She attended schools in Yakima and later worked for a fruit company.
She moved to Fairfield in 1988.
Her husband, Walter, died in 1970. Her daughter, Rita Schanzenbach, died in 1993.
Survivors include two grandsons, Kurt Schanzenbach of Honolulu and Kerry Schanzenbach of Rosalia, Wash.; and three great-grandsons.
Lawrence Morrell Springdale, Wash.
Graveside service for Lawrence Reed Morrell, 87, will be at 11 a.m. today at the Springdale Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Morrell, who was born in Forrest Center, Wash., died Tuesday.
He was a dairy farmer in the Springdale area for 44 years and retired when he was 62.
Mr. Morrell was a member of the Springdale Community Church and was known for his Model T Ford, which he built from the ground up.
Survivors include his wife of 52 years, June; a daughter, Janice Morrell of Springdale; one grandson and three great-grandchildren.
Richard Johnston Spokane
Funeral for Richard L. Johnston, 76, will be at noon today at Riplinger Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Riverside Memorial Park.
A 38-year Spokane resident, Mr. Johnston died Tuesday. He was born in Minneapolis.
Mr. Johnston graduated from Bonners Ferry (Idaho) High School and attended Syracuse University for two years.
He served with the Army during World War II, and then worked as a dispatcher, telegrapher and administrative supervisor. He later retired from the Burlington Northern Railroad.
He was a member of the Spokane Elks, Moose and Eagles lodges, Sons of Norway, Greater Spokane Akita Club, Disabled American Veterans Post 45, Lakeside Masonic Lodge 42 in Sandpoint, Scottish Rite Bodies and the El Katif Shrine.
Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Violet; two daughters, Deborah Weaver of Spokane and Donna Croft of Ellensburg, Wash.; a sister, Millie Miller, and a brother, Fred Johnston, both of California; and three grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Arthritis Foundation.
Rollo Shuler Spokane
Memorial service for Rollo C. Shuler, 82, will be at 11 a.m. today at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home.
Mr. Shuler, who was born in Fruitland, Idaho, died Tuesday. He was a 51-year Spokane resident.
He served in the U.S. Armed Forces during World War II, and with the Rainbow Division in Europe and in the Aleutian Islands for two years.
Mr. Shuler retired as a foreman for Kaiser Aluminum in Trentwood after 25 years.
He was a lifetime member of the Concordia Masonic Temple in Millwood.
Survivors include his wife of 51 years, Virginia; a son, Shawn Shuler of Spokane; a daughter, Delight Shuler of Greenwood, Calif.; two stepchildren, Ted Ewald and Shelley McCormick, both of Spokane; three sisters; seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
Eileen Pollock Spokane
Funeral for Eileen M. Pollock, 79, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at St. Peter’s Catholic Church. Burial will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pollock, who was born in Edgemont, S.D., died Tuesday. She was a 39-year Spokane resident.
She worked as a registered nurse at various hospitals, and was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church.
Her husband, William, died in 1998.
Survivors include a son, Brian Pollock of Spokane; five grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or Morning Star Boys Ranch.
Tracie Larsen Spokane
Private memorial service will be held for Tracie Lane Larsen, 29. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Miss Larsen, who was born in Murray, Utah, died June 18.
She moved to the Spokane area in 1984 and worked as a stock preparer for Goodwill. She was a member of the Spokane Community Mental Health Board.
Survivors include her parents, Norman Larsen and Judith Ann Sawyer, and her father, Geoffrey Thompson; two sisters, Darlin Sanchez and Janyce Jones; three brothers, Mark Larsen, and Terry and David Thompson; and her grandparents, Valora Nolan and George Thompson, both of Salt Lake City.
Robertta Pepin Spokane
Memorial service for Robertta S. Pepin, 81, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Charles Catholic Church. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Pepin, who was born in McClusky, N.D., died Tuesday.
She graduated from Anamoose (N.D.) High School and attended North Dakota State University in Fargo. She later transferred to Eastern Washington University.
Mrs. Pepin taught country school for two years in North Dakota and elementary school in Kelso, Wash., for two years.
She married Raymond Pepin in 1942, and they lived in Longview, Wash., Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and Phoenix before moving to Spokane in 1962.
Mrs. Pepin was a homemaker, living in Deer Valley near Newport, Wash., for several years. She raised fish and canned. She returned to the Spokane area in 1988.
Survivors include her husband; a son, Marc Pepin in Spokane; a daughter, Roberta Lyon of Juneau, Alaska; two sisters, Mildred Kandt of Piedmont, S.D., and Grace Ann Childs of South Dakota; and two grandchildren.

Howard Kendall St. Maries
Service for Howard W. Kendall, 81, will be held today at 2 p.m. at Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries. Military graveside rites and burial will follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries.
Mr. Kendall, who was born in Worley, Idaho, died Tuesday.
He grew up in St. Maries, and served with the Army in New Guinea and the Philippines during World War II.
He returned to St. Maries and in 1945 married Nora Bonds. He worked for B.J. Carney Pole Co. for 14 years and also worked at the St. Maries Complex of Potlatch Corp. He retired in 1985.
He was a member of St. Maries Assembly of God Church, Benewah County Senior Citizens, St. Maries Eagles Aerie and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Harold Bonds of St. Maries, James Bonds of Coeur d’Alene and Wayne Bonds of Medical Lake; a daughter, Lillian Carson of California; 15 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.
Gary Wickham Usk, Wash.
Memorial service for Gary Melford Wickham, a longtime resident of Spokane and Pend Oreille Counties, will be at 11 a.m. Sunday at the family residence, 1533 W. Calispel Road in Usk. Sherman-Knapp Funeral Home in Newport, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Wickham, who died Monday from a brain aneurysm, was 45.
Born in Spokane, he attended schools in Riverside.
In 1975 he married Darla Vanderholm.
Mr. Wickham had been working at Kaiser Aluminum in Trentwood for the past 26 years.
He moved from Elk to Usk 15 years ago.
Survivors include his wife; a daughter, Leanna Frantz of Newport; a son, Gary Wickham of Spokane; his mother, Huldah Wickham of Usk; three sisters, Sherry Ryan, Melvina Stevens and Rosemary Forbes, all of Deer Park; three brothers, Merrell and Russell Wickham, both of Spokane and Clarence Wickham of Post Falls; and five grandchildren.
Irene Sweeney Spokane
Funeral Mass for Irene H. Sweeney, 79, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A longtime Spokane resident, Miss Sweeney died June 18. She was born in Everett.
She graduated from Holy Names Academy in 1938 and attended Kinman Business University.
Miss Sweeney worked as a legal secretary.
She was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.
Survivors include five nieces, Kathy Pasby and Renie Johnston, both of Spokane, Annie Coyne and MaryAnne Bonney, both of Seattle, and Peggy Teddy of Overland Park, Kan.; and a nephew, Bill Bierce of Spokane.

Christian `Fred’ Sweetman Newport, Wash.
No service will be held for Christian Frederick “Fred” Sweetman. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Sweetman, who died June 16, was born in Davenport, Iowa. He was 81.
He grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa, and attended college in St. Louis.
Mr. Sweetman was an Army Air Corps pilot during World War II, and served tours in India, Burma and China. After the war he became a corporate pilot for a Saudi Arabian oil company. He retired in 1976 and moved to Newport.
He was a member of Newport Eagles Lodge 3443, Newport Rodeo Association and was a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association.
Survivors include his wife of 28 years, Anne; a son, Rick; a daughter, Sandy; a sister, Nancy Frymire; a brother, Wayne Sweetman; and two grandchildren.
Jean Jordan Spokane
Private family services will be held at a later date for Jean Jordan, a 50-year Spokane resident. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Jordan, who was born in Forest, Wis., died June 15. She was 67.
She worked as a beautician for more than 35 years, and was a member of the Spokane Valley Seventh-day Adventist Church.
Her husband, Glenn Jordan, died in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Cheryl Tenney of Sandpoint; a son, Alvin Hall of Wisconsin; five stepdaughters, Tracy Fletcher of Ephrata, Wash., Sandy Rees and Jody Ball, both of Kennewick, and Arlene Gertson and Nancy Roberts, both of Spokane; four stepsons, Bruce, Denny, Jeff and Jay Jordan, all of Spokane; two brothers, George and Frederick Lewis, both of Spokane; a sister, Ruby Jacobson of California; 34 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
