William Flenniken Liberty Lake
Funeral for William H. Flenniken, a 20-year Spokane area resident, will be at 10 a.m. today at Opportunity Free Methodist Church. Burial will follow at Pines Cemetery. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Flenniken, who was born in Los Angeles, died Tuesday. He was 74.
He attended Franklin High School in California and enlisted in the Navy in 1942. He served on board the USS Mount Vernon, USS Deimos and USS Braxton, at the Naval Air Station in Los Alamitos, Calif., and the Naval Supply Center Guadalcanal. He attained the rank of storekeeper first class, and in 1948 transferred to the U.S. Army, where we was a sergeant first class.
Mr. Flenniken was appointed warrant officer in 1951, first lieutenant in 1957, captain in 1961, major in 1966 and lieutenant colonel in 1969. He served at Fort MacArthur in San Pedro, Calif., Camp Stoneman in Pittsburg, Calif., Camp Darby in Tyrrhenia, Italy, Fort MacPherson in Atlanta, Ga., at the Army Headquarters in Seoul, South Korea, Fort Benjamin Harrison in Indianapolis, Fort Bliss in El Paso, Texas, and with the C.O. 22nd Finance Command in Nha Trang, Vietnam, where he was awarded the Bronze Star for Meritorious Service and a Meritorious Unit Commendation. He retired at the William Beaumont General Hospital in El Paso in 1971 after 29 years of service.
Mr. Flenniken graduated from the University of Texas in El Paso with a bachelor’s degree in 1972.
He moved to Spokane in 1978 and began working as the business manager and comptroller for the McCollum Ford group. He retired in 1989.
Mr. Flenniken was a member of Opportunity Free Methodist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Marilyn; two sons, William and Robert Flenniken; two daughters, Ellen Flenniken and Marianne Anderson; a brother, Clifford Porter; two sisters, Nola Porter Stezaker and Loleta Flenniken Tate; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.
Lois `Jean’ Baker Spokane
No service will be held for Lois “Jean” Baker, a 55-year Spokane resident, at her request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Baker, who was born in Albany, Ore., died Wednesday. She was 73.
During World War II she worked as a welder in the Portland Shipyards, and retired from working for the Ridpath Hotel in Spokane in 1990, after 30 years of service.
She was a 12-year member of the Executive Board Local 400.
Survivors include two daughters, Madelynn Mercer of Rainier, Wash., and Sheri Baker of Tacoma; a brother, Loren DeWitt of Redmond, Ore.; two grandchildren and two great-granddaughters.
Frances (Beaulieu) Bohlman Spokane
Graveside service for Frances R. (Beaulieu) Bohlman, 67, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Bohlman died June 21.
She worked as a nurses aide and as a caretaker for the elderly for several years.
Survivors include her companion, Roy Solinsky of Spokane; a son, Steve Beaulieu of Spokane; a daughter, Sharon Pethers of Mead; three brothers, James Brophy of Spokane, Michael Brophy of Latah and Paul Brophy of Pittsburgh; two sisters, Patricia Frauchiger and Colleen Miller, both of Spokane; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Judy Cole Hayden, Idaho
Memorial service for Judy Joan Cole, 45, will be held Monday at 2 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home, Hayden Chapel. A reception will follow at the Yates Hayden Chapel Gathering Center.
Mrs. Cole, who was born in Spokane, died Wednesday.
She grew up in Spokane and attended Central Valley High School, and married David Cole in 1971.
She lived in Spokane and worked as a seamstress for Pacific Trail and All Seasons Apparel. She settled in Hayden in 1987, where she co-owned Ace Auto and Boat Upholstery.
Survivors include her husband of 28 years; a daughter, Shastadi Watts of Rathdrum, Idaho; her stepmother, Gerri Knudson of Spokane; four brothers, Kenny Knudson, Rev. Bill Knudson and Gary Knudson, all of Spokane, and Steve Knudson of Post Falls; five sisters, Gloria Oyler, Janet Potter, Sharon Tucker, Ann Napier and Linda Marley, all of Spokane; and three grandchildren.

Lavon Giese Cheney
Funeral for Lavon Norman Giese, 76, formerly of Odessa, Wash., will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Strate Funeral Home in Davenport, Wash. Burial will follow at 12:45 at the Odessa Cemetery.
Mr. Giese, who was born in Odessa, died Thursday.
He graduated from Odessa High School in 1942, and was a farmer in the Odessa area for many years.
Mr. Giese moved to Cheney 13 years ago.
Survivors include his adopted family, Michael and Clare Smith, and their children, Ethan, Sabrina, Lanie and Damian.

Sylvanus Hanly Spokane
No service will be held for Sylvanus W. Hanly, 89, at his request. A memorial gathering is planned for a later date at Wandermere Golf Course. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hanly, who was born in Helena, Ark., died Wednesday.
He was raised in Kansas City, Mo., and later moved to California.
Mr. Hanly owned a mortgage business in San Jose, Calif., and San Diego. He later went to work in Los Angeles for the Federal Housing Administration.
In 1968 he moved to Spokane to become the chief of mortgage and credit in the office of Housing and Urban Development and the Federal Housing Administration.
He was a longtime member of the Wandermere Men’s Golf Club and was known for his oil paintings.
Survivors include a son, Brian Hanly of New Zealand; three grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
Donald Fisher Coeur d’Alene
A celebration of life for Donald L. Fisher, 78, will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday at T.W. Fisher’s in Coeur d’Alene. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Fisher, who was born in Wallace, died Wednesday.
He graduated from Coeur d’Alene High School in 1939 and served with the Army during World War II.
Mr. Fisher returned to the Coeur d’Alene area and worked in the logging industry, retiring in 1980.
He worked with his son at the Coeur d’Alene Brewing Co. from 1987 to 1997, and was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Eagles Lodge.
Survivors include his wife, Beatrice; three sons, Steven Fisher of Spokane, Thomas Fisher of Coeur d’Alene and Yancey Fisher of Post Falls; two brothers, Jim Fisher of Post Falls and Richard Fisher of Coeur d’Alene; four sisters, Fairy Delay of Careywood, Idaho, Gladys and Vivian Wargi, both of Coeur d’Alene, and Violet Wagner of Bremerton; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Larry Tibbits Spokane
Service for Larry A. Tibbits, 45, will be today at 1 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Mr. Tibbits, a lifelong resident of Spokane, died Monday.
He grew up and attended school in Greenacres, and worked as a forklift driver at Kaiser Aluminum for 22 years.
Survivors include his wife of 24 years, Jeanie; a son, Jeffrey Tibbits, and a daughter, Misty Perkins, both of Spokane; his father, “Ike” Tibbits of Spokane; and two brothers, William Tibbits of Spokane and Dan Tibbits of Portland.

Carl Rice Spokane
Visitation for Carl R. Rice, 85, will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home-South. Graveside service is planned for 10 a.m. Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mr. Rice, who was born in Miles City, Mont., died Wednesday.
He moved to Spokane in 1941 and served in the Navy during World War II in the Pacific Theater.
After the war, he worked on several dams in Montana, Idaho and Washington. He also was a truck driver for many years, primarily in the moving industry.
Mr. Rice was a longtime member of Teamsters Union Local 690.
Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Marie; two sons, Earl Rice of Spokane and Roy Rice of Diamond Lake, Wash.; two daughters, Sheron Stewart of Thief River Falls, Minn., and Alvina Cockburn of Spokane; three sisters, Rose Ludwig of Laurel, Mont., Lucille Twadell of Denver and Eunice of Kalispell, Mont.; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.
Gladys (Dalve) Alsworth Spokane
No service will be held for Gladys (Dalve) Alsworth, 85, at her request. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Alsworth, who was born in Napoleon, N.D., died Monday.
She married Willis Alsworth in 1935 and they settled in Spokane during World War II.
Mrs. Alsworth worked as a Realtor for Anthony Baker and Burns Real Estate for several years. She later owned and managed her own apartment buildings.
She was a longtime member of the Second Church of Christ Scientist and the Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors include three daughters, Karen Kahmann of Spokane, Susan Graham of Charlotte, N.C., and Dana Burch of Orlando, Fla.; two brothers, Virgil Dalve of Spokane and Merle Dalve of Tucson, Ariz.; a sister, Joy Knopf of Bradenton, Fla.; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
