New Renaissance
American sculptor Nina Akamu stands underneath her 24-foot-high bronze sculpture “Il Cavallo,” Italian for the “The Horse,” at the Tallix foundry in Beacon, N.Y. The sculpture originally was planned to be created from sketches by Leonardo da Vinci, who was commissioned to do the work for the Duke of Milan. But setbacks derailed the project. Akamu was hired to start from scratch. The 15-ton, $6.5 million sculpture will be disassembled and shipped to Italy.
