State Bases May Get $120 Million In Projects

A U.S. House subcommittee on Tuesday approved $120 million for military construction projects in Washington state, said Rep. Norm Dicks, D-Wash.

Among other projects, the amount approved by the Military Construction Appropriations Subcommittee includes:

Nearly $28 million for an addition to the fuel hydrant system and other projects at Fairchild Air Force Base near Spokane.

$16 million for a Mobilization Training and Equipment Site at the Army’s Yakima Firing Center.

$15.8 million for dredging at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard in Bremerton to provide safe clearances for aircraft carrier operations.

$11.2 million for facilities at McChord Air Force Base for the new C-17 cargo planes, expected to begin arriving at the base next month.

$9 million for construction of family housing at Fort Lewis.

The money is part of the Military Constructions Appropriations Bill for fiscal year 2000.
