Adams County Ritzville

City officials hope to receive grant money to upgrade the town’s sewer plant. The Ritzville sewer project has survived the first round of cuts for $2.2 million in Centennial Clean Water Fund money. Ritzville was cut in the final round in 1998, but hopes to be in the money come August when finalists are announced by the state.

Ferry County Republic

You won’t find a recent issue of Sports Illustrated in any Republic store. They’re sold out as local residents get a chance to read about one of their own. U.S. women’s soccer team member Julie Foudy’s mother, Judy Glenny Foudy, was born and raised in Republic. Julie Foudy, of Mission Viejo, Calif., was featured in a four-page spread that stirred local interest in the World Cup Soccer Championships.

Grant County Grand Coulee

The local Chamber of Commerce invites all to a fireworks display July 4. The fireworks will be shot off the top of Grand Coulee Dam after the laser light show. Food vendors and games prior to dusk are on the agenda. The light show begins at 10 p.m. with fireworks fading by 11 p.m. The entire evening of fun is free. For more information, call 1-800-COULEE2.

Lincoln County Davenport

Although flooding is rare in Lincoln County, when it happens, it’s devastating. That’s why the county was pleased to be awarded a $50,000 grant for flood planning. The last major flood hit downtown Sprague in 1997. The Big Bend Economic Development Council was key in receiving the grant.

Pend Oreille County Davis Lake

Lake residents worried about infestations of Eurasian milfoil are invited to a public meeting tonight. The meeting will begin at 7 p.m. at 161 Davis Lake Plat Road.

Interested folks will hear of plans for a milfoil treatment program. The noxious weed can choke a waterway and make swimming dangerous.

Spokane County Deer Park

Recent Deer Park High School graduate Ryan M. Coles was among more than 3,900 University of Idaho students to share in about $5.6 million in scholarships for the upcoming school year. Coles received the school’s Top Non-resident Award.

Stevens County Colville

Local resident Julianna Rigg, Washington state’s Junior Miss, is now flashing her smile for judges in Mobile, Ala. The national Junior Miss competition is under way, with the final pageant to be broadcast Saturday.

Whitman County Garfield

Local residents will get their say in the choosing of a new superintendent for the Garfield/Palouse School District. The candidate interview process has begun, with Tami Hickle, curriculum director and grant manager for the Elma School District near Olympia, and Bill Eggers, a superintendent in South Dakota, as the two contenders. A decision is expected soon.

IDAHO

Benewah County St. Maries

The St. Joe Ranger District will offer six commercial firewood sales this summer. Two sales will be offered on July 7, July 28 and Aug. 17. The White Castle firewood sales are located in portions of Section 15, Township 42N, Range 3E in Shoshone County. Bid packages are available in the district office in St. Maries. Bonner County Coolin

Priest Lake State Park will offer a variety of programs and recreational activities this weekend. Programs at Lionhead Campground will include the history of Priest Lake on Friday, a discussion about Nell Shipman on Saturday, and the Missoula Ice Floods on Sunday. Boundary County Bonners Ferry

Kootenai County Coeur d’Alene

Tickets are now available for the Hospice of North Idaho fund-raiser “The Pajama Game” Aug. 5. Tickets are available at the Hospice Office. The cost is $23, of which $11.50 is a tax-deductible donation to Hospice. The event, presented by the Coeur d’Alene Summer Theatre, will begin at 8 p.m. at the North Idaho College Schuler Auditorium. Latah County Moscow

Moscow writer Alice Koskela has been awarded a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship for residency at the Ragdale Foundation, an internationally acclaimed artists’ community in Lake Forest, Ill.

Koskela, a former Lewiston Morning Tribune reporter, won an Idaho Commission on the Arts Writer’s Fellowship in 1995. Her first book, a memoir about growing up on an Idaho farm in the 1950s and 1960s titled “The Pull of Moving Water,” will be published in August by the Washington State University Press.

Shoshone County Kellogg

The deadline to register for the Silver Hoops basketball tournament is July 6. The tournament is scheduled for July 10 at Teeter’s Field. Lincoln County Libby

Lincoln County Commissioners have adopted a new schedule for subdivisions. Fee changes include a preliminary plat review for minor subdivisions of $300, a $400 fee for major subdivisions, plus $10 per lot, a $200 change of agricultural exemption status fee and a final plat review fee of $100. Commissioners also approved three new fees of $25 for lakeshore or floodplain construction permits and $2 for a copy of the county subdivision regulations.
