How safe do you feel in school? What suggestions do you have to make our schools safer?

The Spokesman-Review will explore the answers to these questions with the help of Inland Northwest high school students, so we need your help.

We are looking for high-school-age students to join us March 15 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Ferris High School cafeteria for a presentation and discussion about school safety.

The forum is a follow-up to the school safety series, “Learning the Hard Way,” which ran Jan. 31, Feb. 1 and Feb. 2 in The Spokesman-Review. If you missed the series, you can find it online at www.spokane.net/safe or at http://ourgen.spokane.net

Find out about area colleges at the 1999 College Fair on Wednesday from noon until 9 p.m. at the Washington State University/Spokane County Extension Education Center, 222 N. Havana. Design the CD cover for the band B*Witched and meet the group as they tour with ‘N Sync.

The contest is open to students ages 12 to 19. Entries must be on one page, no larger than 8-1/2 by 11 inches. Entries must be accompanied by your name, complete address, phone number, date of birth and your signature certifying that the work is your own. If you are under 18, you need a parent’s signature as well. Mail entries to B*Witched Disc Cover Art, c/o react, 711 Third Ave., New York, NY 10017. Entries must be received by March 12. Make a difference by entering the annual To Make a Difference problem-solving competition. Any group of three or more students in grades 7 through 12 can enter. Teams must identify a current problem in the Spokane area and write a report that includes a plan of action. Letters of intent, which include team members’ names and a declared problem statement, are due by March 8. Final projects are due April 2.
