Big Nine girls
Two rematches from a year ago, Kamiakin beat LC 68-26 and Richland beat CV 49-35… . Both leagues return three of four, in Big Nine, Pasco replaces Wenatchee and in GSL U-Hi replaces Ferris… . Mead (53-37) and CV (71-48) beat Kamiakin the first weekend, but after 1-3 start, won 17 of 18 behind Emily Autrey. State 100-meter champion, who has signed with UW, Autrey was league MVP, averaging 21.2 points after being held to 19 on opening weekend. … Kennewick led by Emily Faurholt, 5-11 soph. post, at 17.7 ppg; Heather Thoelke , 5-11 jr. guard, 14.9; and 5-10 jr. post Heidi Mensigner, 10.7. Faurholt and Thoelke are first team All-Big Nine. … Pasco’s 5-9 soph. guard Brooke Lanning made first team all-league with 20.5 average. Bulldogs last made regional in ‘95 and state in ‘89… . Meggen Kautzky of Richland, 5-6 sr. guard, went over 1,000 points Friday and made all-league first team with a 10.6 average.
GSL girls
Morgan Bennett of Mead, who is headed for the Air Force Academy, led the GSL - boys and girls - at 17.8 ppg. Jr. Courtney Ferguson added 10.3 for Mead, which gave up 50 or more points four times, losing three… . CV scored less than 50 four times, losing three. The Bears are led by Marisa Liepman at 12.9 and Jenny Wilson at 10.4. Wilson hit buzzer-beater last year to send Bears to state and keep Kamiakin home. Soph. Raeanna Jewell adds 9.5 off the bench. … U-Hi has most wins since 1990 (21-9) team was sixth at state. No one in double figures for team that won 9 of last 10 in regular season to shoot to third seed. … LC also no double-figure scorer. Tigers won 6 of 8 down stretch to earn fifth seed.

One rematch, Walla Walla beat CV 65-51. Prep beat Wa-Hi 56-54 in season opener; Blue Devils then won 20 straight before falling to Davis in district title game. … Ferris beat Eisenhower in season opener at Ike… . Rare matchup for first round, Wa-Hi went undefeated in Big Nine, CV lost once in GSL, but district upsets produced meeting… . GSL returns all four regional teams from last year… . Wa-Hi’s Kyle Bankhead, a 6-2 sr. guard, was third in league scoring at 17.3 to earn league player of year, but 6-2 sr. forward Jon DeWolfe, first-team all-league, 11.5, could be best player… . Davis has the second and fifth scorers in the Big Nine in Tyler Stubblefield, 6-1 jr. guard, and Josh Williams, 6-7 jr. post, at 19.5 and 14.9, respectively. Both were first team all-league. Williams, nephew of coach Shag Williams, edged Stubblefield for scoring title last year by tenth of a point. Stubblefield shared quarterback duties with Aaron Anderson, a 6-4 sr., who averaged 12.4 in basketball… . Pasco’s leading scorer is 5-10 sr. guard Demetrius Straws, a first-year varsity player, at 13.1. Brian Niebel, a 6-2 sr., adds, 10.9. David Hileman, a 5-10 streaking outside shooter, has signed to play soccer at Wisconsin-Green Bay… . Eisenhower third-year coach Don VanLierop put in two stints as a Ferris assistant. GSL boys
CV only allowed 50 points twice, losing both. Balanced attack led by Bryan Depew at 13.6, Kyle Boast at 11.6 and Patrick Libey at 10.0… . Ferris is on second nine-game winning streak. Chris Watts leads Saxons at 10.6 with Andre Atkins at 10.4… . Prep also had nine-game winning streak, but have lost four of last six, averaging 38.5 points in losses.
