Obituaries

William Lenhares Sagle, Idaho

Service for William J. “Bill” Lenhares, 80, will be today at 11 a.m. at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Burial will be at Westmond (Idaho) Cemetery, near Sandpoint.

Mr. Lenhares, who was born in Mendocino, Calif., died Sunday.

He grew up and attended schools in Southern California and worked as a farmhand there until joining the Army in 1940.

Mr. Lenhares served as a cook for the Medical Corps during World War II at the Dutch Harbor Military Base in the Aleutians. He attended trade school in Farragut, Idaho, for several years after his discharge.

He had worked various mechanical, trucking and maintenance jobs throughout North Idaho, Washington and California. He worked for five years as an equipment operator with King County Flood Control and for 16 years as a landscaper for the Bellevue, Wash., parks department before retiring and moving to Sagle in 1988.

Survivors include his wife of 55 years, Irene; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Glenore Shilliam Spokane

Vigil for Glenore E. Shilliam, 63, will be at 7:30 p.m. today at Mary Queen Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Friday at the church. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Colton, Wash., Mrs. Shilliam died Monday.

She was a 41-year Spokane resident and worked for Frederick and Nelson for before retiring from working as a secretary at U.S. Bank for many years.

Mrs. Shilliam was a member of Mary Queen Parish and Altar Society, Mary Queen Conference of St. Vincent de Paul and the Pure Heart of Mary Guild.

Her husband, Delbert, died in 1992.

Survivors include two sons, Rick Shilliam of Hillsboro, Ore., and Don Shilliam of Beaverton, Ore.; two daughters, Gail and Terri Shilliam, both of Spokane; two brothers, Clinton Riedner of Seattle and Ron Riedner of Kennewick; six sisters, Mona DeChant of Avon, Ohio, Roxy Streeter of Kennewick, Katherine Plas of Scottsdale, Ariz., Linda Bosse of Moscow, Idaho, Wanda Milbert of Potlatch, Idaho, and Marcie Henry of Pasco; and four grandchildren.

Memorial Contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or Cancer Patient Care.

Deloris (Johnson) Heath Sandpoint

A potluck gathering in memory of Deloris Eleanor (Johnson) Heath, 72, will be Friday at 1 p.m. at the Sandpoint Veterans of Foreign Wars Hall. Coffelt Funeral Service is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Heath, who was born in North Dakota, died Tuesday.

She married Wayne Heath in 1946 and briefly traveled in the Northwest, working in the construction industry before settling in Sandpoint that same year..

Her husband died last April.

Survivors include two sons, Clayton Heath of Coeur d’Alene, and Bruce Davis of Colburn, Idaho; a brother, Arliss Johnson of California; a sister, Shirley Hardesty of California; three grandchildren, Craig, Robin and John; and five great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association.

Ernest Gill Sandpoint

Visitation for Ernest Gill, 90, will be from noon to 5 p.m. Friday at Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint. Service is planned for 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memorial Park in Sandpoint.

Mr. Gill, who was born in Rathdrum, Idaho, died Friday.

He moved to Eureka, Mont., in 1923, where he played sports and graduated from high school.

Mr. Gill then moved to Priest River, Idaho, and married Lucille Dewar in 1930.

He had lived at the Falls Ranger Station and worked as an alternate ranger. He also had worked as a lookout and in fire control. In 1948 he became a logging superintendent for Pack River Lumber Co.

Mr. Gill moved to Sandpoint in 1949 and helped build more than 100 miles of logging roads in the region, including the Schweitzer Basin Road.

He was preceded in death by his wife.

Survivors include two daughters, Betty Lou Shear of Post Falls and Sherry Lea Wilkening of Spokane.

Oscar Pritchett St. Maries

Graveside inurnment for Oscar G. Pritchett, 68, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Maries. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Pritchett, who was born in Georgia, died Saturday.

He grew up in Marshallville, Ga., and graduated from high school there in 1948.

He served with the Air Force in the Korean and Vietnam wars. Mr. Pritchett had a 26-year career with the Air Force before retiring in 1974.

He moved to St. Maries after his retirement and worked for St. Maries Concrete and Jack Buell Logging, retiring in 1991.

Mr. Pritchett was a member of the St. Maries Men’s Bowling Association.

Survivors include his wife of 39 years, Maggie; three daughters, Karen Gibson and Teresa Reid, both of St. Maries, and Denise Unger of Michigan; a brother, Lanier Pritchett of Alabama; four sisters, Betty Williamson, Juanita Lockerman, Barbara Squire and Kathryn Mims, all of Georgia; and seven grandchildren.

Gerald `Jerry’ Scott Blanchard, Idaho

Memorial service for Gerald F. “Jerry” Scott, 64, will be Friday at 11 a.m. at Blanchard Community Church. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Scott, who was born in Williston, N.D., died Sunday.

He grew up and attended school in Williston. He joined the Navy in 1952.

Mr. Scott worked for Westland Oil Refinery in Williston, and in 1960 he married Andrea Gurke.

Mr. Pritchett later moved to North Idaho.

He had worked for the Postal Service for 31 years before retiring in 1996. He then worked for Systems Transport Inc. as a longhaul truck driver.

Mr. Scott retired in 1997 due to medical reasons.

Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Amber and Erin Scott, both of Blanchard, and Ember Scott of Post Falls; his mother, Tommi Scott of Portland; a sister, Eunice Crowder of Portland; and a brother, Bob Scott of Williston.

Freda Thatcher St. Maries

Gathering for family and friends of Freda Thatcher, 87, will be at 1 p.m. Saturday at the St. Maries Eagles Lodge. Yates-Hodge Funeral Home in St. Maries is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Thatcher, who was born in Osceola, Iowa, died Sunday.

She moved to Douglas, Wyo., in 1917 and graduated from high school there in 1929.

In 1934 she married Michael Thatcher and lived in Douglas before moving to St. Maries in 1947.

She was a homemaker and operated a cattle and sheep ranch.

Survivors include her husband; four sons, Frank Thatcher of Wyoming, Michael and George Thatcher, both of St. Maries, and Bob Thatcher of Enumclaw, Wash.; three daughters, Susan Roop of Cocolalla, Idaho, Bonnie Thatcher of Sagle, Idaho, and Becky Borgmann of Spokane; a brother, Merlyn Crawford of Wyoming; 29 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandson.

George Erickson Hayden, Idaho

No service will be held for George W. Erickson, 91, at his request. English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Erickson, who was born in Springfield, Minn., died Feb. 14.

He owned weekly newspapers in Rice Lake, Wis., and Lewiston, Minn., and was stationed with the Navy at Farragut Naval Training Station during World War II.

Mr. Erickson sold the newspapers after his military service and in 1946 moved to Hayden and worked in the print shop at The Coeur d’Alene Press.

He then published Fun Magazine in the Idaho Panhandle before retiring.

Mr. Erickson was a member of the Coeur d’Alene Elks Lodge and the American Legion and had been a volunteer at the North Idaho Museum.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Irene; and a brother, Norman Erickson, and sister, Helen Hench, both of Minnesota.

Earl Mathews Kingston, Idaho

Memorial service for Earl D. Mathews, 67, will be held at a later date. Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mathews, who was born in Oklahoma, died Tuesday.

He grew up and graduated from high school in California and briefly attended college before serving with the Air Force.

Mr. Mathews lived in California until 1985, when he moved to Stevensville, Mont., where he owned a motel. He retired and moved to Kingston in 1993.

He was preceded in death by his first wife.

Survivors include his wife of 13 years, Barbara; three daughters, Kathy Burcham of Nevada, and Janet Lockman and Eva Hernadez, both of California; two stepdaughters, Marjorie Durham of California and Cynthia Lanier of Montana; a stepson, David Whitman of Snohomish, Wash.; three brothers, Kenneth Mathews of Pinehurst, Idaho, and Woodrow and Robert Mathews, both of California; eight grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Christian Richardson Coeur d’Alene

Service for Christian Ray Richardson, 4-month-old son of Jesse Richardson and Melissa Slater, will be Friday at noon at English Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene.

Christian was born Oct. 21 at Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. He died Sunday.

Survivors include his parents; a sister, Sarah Cullum of Nevada; his grandparents, Edward Richardson of Post Falls, Lori Smith of Coeur d’Alene and Gary Smith of Rathdrum, Idaho; and his great-grandparents, Calvin and Lynn Neff of Post Falls.

Margaret Truitt Priest Lake, Idaho

Graveside service for Margaret E. Truitt, 72, is planned for 2 p.m. Saturday at Riverside Memorial Park. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Truitt, who was born in Spokane, died Tuesday.

She graduated from North Central High School and worked in the medical records department at Sacred Heart Medical Center for 30 years. She retired in 1981.

Mrs. Truitt lived in Spokane for 52 years before moving to the Priest Lake area 20 years ago.

Her husband, Bert, died in 1992.

Survivors include a son, Bill Mansfield of Spokane; a daughter, Mary Malencore of Seattle; and two grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Spokane County Humane Society.

Ethel Filibeck Spokane

No service will be held for Ethel Juliana Filibeck, 80, at her request. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Filibeck died Monday.

She was a homemaker.

Survivors include two daughters, Patricia Nelson and Elaine Gregor, both of Spokane; a brother, Fanchion O’Connor of Lewiston; nine grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Bill Henderson Hayden, Idaho

Memorial service for Bill E. Henderson, 69, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Yates Funeral Chapel in Coeur d’Alene. Mr. Henderson, who was born in Colorado, died Monday.

He grew up in California before moving to Bonners Ferry, where he graduated from high school.

Mr. Henderson worked for the Thompson Lumber Co., in Bonners Ferry and then moved to Ephrata, Wash., and was a farmer.

He moved to Coeur d’Alene in 1971 and owned a dump truck business before retiring last year.

Mr. Henderson was a member of the Hayden Lake Eagles Lodge.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Marie; two sons, Ted Henderson of Sitka, Alaska, and Bill Henderson of Twin Lakes, Idaho; a daughter, Susan Erickson of Coeur d’Alene; three stepchildren, Donald, Lola and Mona Bradford; two brothers, Curtis Henderson of Ephrata and Robert Henderson of Athol, Idaho; a sister, Amy of California; and six grandchildren.
