Serious Burn Heals Well After Blessing

Jeanie Hyer Kettle Falls, Wash.

It’s always a fun occasion to have a friend spend the night, and when you’re 8 years old, it doesn’t happen a lot. To celebrate the fun, Colton fixed popcorn in the air popper.

Naturally, you can’t have popcorn without tons of greasy, drippy butter. To make fast work of a cube of butter, Colton put an already soft cube of butter in the microwave for five minutes, about 4-1/2 minutes longer than needed.

Needless to say, he didn’t notice the spouting, boiling bubbles when he reached into the microwave, retrieving the golden liquid that would soon have him in the emergency room of a hospital.

As soon as he picked up the butter dish, he could feel the splattering butter and heat from the bowl. His response was to drop the bowl - on top of his wrist and arm. Immediately, skin melted off his arm. He sustained severe second-degree burns completely around his wrist and on his hand. It was a horrible sight.

We cooled his burned arm in running tap water.

While we prepared to go to the hospital, missionaries from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints came to our door. When I explained what had just happened, they offered to give my son a blessing.

They laid their hands on Colton’s head and gave him a priesthood blessing. They blessed him that he’d heal quickly, without scars and without any infection.

Following Colton’s accident, he went to physical therapy. Within two weeks, he had beautiful skin - like that of a baby.

The lady in charge of the physical therapy department said, “I’ve been here 20 years, and I’ve never seen a burn like that heal so fast and without any problems. What do you feed your son?”

I told her that he had had a priesthood blessing.

Today Colton bears no mark from his severe oil burn. I’m forever grateful to the missionaries who came to our door and blessed my son in the name of Jesus Christ and for the blessing that was granted.
