Put Blame Where It Belongs
State Rep. Hilde Kellogg, R-Post Falls, has caught guff from constituents for missing the vote that could have changed the state’s sales tax distribution formula. It was her bill, but the criticism isn’t fair. She was so sick she couldn’t speak to debate the House bill, which lost by one vote. The culprit here is Rep. John Campbell, R-Sandpoint, who voted nay, although Bonner and Kootenai counties have lost millions of tax dollars under the unfair old formula. No wonder North Idaho issues come up short.
His kingdom for Monica Lewinsky?
Good grief I can’t believe I watched the whole thing. The full Monty-ca. Two tedious hours of $400,000 Victoria’s Secret ads and girl talk about the White House Horndog. Hell hath no fury like a “portly pepperpot” scorned … I never thought I’d see the day when regular gasoline was selling for 99 cents per gallon again in North Idaho. That must mean gas across the border is going for four bits … The Pierce Clegg watch has begun. Rumors were swirling recently that the Kootenai County sheriff was about to step down, to give Undersheriff Gary Cuff seasoning as sheriff before he has to campaign for election. It will happen. But not quite yet … If Public Defender John Adams wants to campaign against capital punishment, he should do so with his own money. Again, Adams is trying to waste taxpayers’ dollars on his personal crusade by asking that a jury rather than Judge James Judd sentence cop killer Scott Yager.
`Pastor Dave’: Gone but not forgotten
Has Falls Christian Academy founder Dave Hutchison really been gone over four years now? No one loved local sports more than he did. It’s a shame he didn’t live to see the first FCA team play in the state A-4 boys’ basketball tournament this year … Sweet Potatoes to Barb Renner, who transformed the North Idaho Fair and Kootenai County Fairgrounds into a source of community pride in her 14 years as manager. She retired last week … Also, give a Candied Yam to Central Valley High senior Bob Schmautz, a Pizza Hut delivery man who opted to be fired rather than cross the Kaiser picket line his father, Dan, has walked since Sept. 30 … If you have kids, run, don’t walk, to rent the video, “Ever After.”
