Lela Burgen Spokane

Funeral Mass for Lela Burgen, 91, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Edwall, Wash., Mrs. Burgen died Thursday.

She had been a Spokane resident since 1944 and taught elementary school throughout Washington state for 42 years.

Mrs. Burgen was a charter member of the Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa and the Arborettes Garden Club. She was also a member of the the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes Altar Society.

Her husband, Harold, died in 1989.

Survivors include a son, James Burgen; a daughter, Susan Zeisler; a brother, Glen Thorpe; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Rho Chapter of Alpha Delta Kappa, the Arborettes Garden Club or The Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.

James McIsaac Spokane

Memorial service for James D. “Jim” McIsaac, 70, will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Charles Catholic Church. Heritage Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Born in Spokane, Mr. McIsaac, died Thursday.

He served as a communications maintenance person in the Air Force for 22 years, before retiring in 1969.

Mr. McIsaac then became the owner and operator of the Copper Bowl bowling alley in Colville, Wash., for 14 years.

His wife, Reta, died in 1996.

Survivors include three sons, James McIsaac of Spokane, Jay McIsaac of Deer Park and Ralph McIsaac of Shelton, Wash.; a daughter, Deborah Roberts of LaCrosse, Wash.; a sister, Phyllis Calbom of Spokane; and 10 grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to Horizon Hospice.

Wanetta Kulm Lind, Wash.

Visitation for Wanetta M. Kulm, 68, will be from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. today and from 8 to 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Kayser’s Chapel of Memories in Moses Lake. Graveside service will follow at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Lind Cemetery.

Mrs. Kulm, who was born in Hayden Lake, Idaho, died Friday.

She married Arthur Kulm in 1949 and they moved to Lind.

Mrs. Kulm was a farmer in Lind for many years and was a member of Good Hope Lutheran Church in Lind, the Lind Grange and the Washington Association of Wheat Growers.

Survivors include her husband; a son, Darrel Kulm of Lind; two daughters, Sandra Robertson of Beaverton, Ore., and Wanda Rehn of Lind; two brothers, Milford Dingman of Spokane and Kenneth Dingman of Coeur d’Alene; a sister, Mary Clements of Albany, Ore.; and six grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association.

Martha Bishop Spokane

Funeral for Martha W. Bishop, 71, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A Spokane resident since 1956, Mrs. Bishop died Friday. She was born in Kalispell, Mont.

She was a homemaker.

Her husband, Enoch Bishop, died in 1993.

Survivors include a son, Rodney Bishop of Otis Orchards; a daughter, Wanda Biddle of Seaton, Ill.; two sisters, Marie Kitzmueller of Ferndale, Mont., and Virginia Woll of Four Corners, Mont.; four grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Dorothy Kiehn Ritzville, Wash.

Private funeral Mass for Dorothy E. Kiehn, 88, was Monday at St. Agnes Catholic Church in Ritzville. Burial was at the Ritzville City Cemetery. Mrs. Kiehn, who was born in Spokane, died Thursday.

She graduated from Cheney Normal College in 1920 and taught school in Washtucna, Wash., before moving to Ritzville in 1927. In Ritzville she taught junior high and high school. She retired in 1972.

Mrs. Kiehn was a member of St. Agnes Catholic Church.

Her husband, Everett, died in 1976.

Survivors include a son, Timothy Kiehn of New York City; a daughter, Kate Tesh of Seattle; and nine grandchildren.

John `Bud’ Jones Spokane

Memorial service for John J. “Bud” Jones, 69, will be at 10 a.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home.

Mr. Jones, who died Friday, was born in Poplar, Mont.

He was a 50-year Spokane resident and worked for the Spokane County Department of Engineers for several years.

Survivors include a son, Mike Jones of Spokane; his mother, Marie Jones of Spokane; two brothers, Edward Jones of Spokane and Tom Smith of Montana; two sisters, Marie Donnelly and Elizabeth Phillips, both of Montana; and two granddaughters.

Sr. Catherine Rauch, S.N.J.M. Spokane

Funeral Mass for Sr. Catherine (Gretchen Marie) Rauch, SNJM, 81, will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the Convent of the Holy Names. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Sr. Rauch, who was born in Quincy, Wash., died Saturday.

She attended schools in Seattle before receiving her bachelor’s degree in music with an emphasis in violin from Marylhurst College in Oregon.

Sr. Rauch taught music in Seattle, Portland and Spokane for 59 years. She most recently taught violin at the Holy Names Music Center in Spokane for 18 years.

Survivors include two sisters, Loretta Rauch of Seattle and Sr. Marian Louise Rauch of Spokane.

Gladys Pfitzer Spokane

Visitation for Gladys D. Pfitzer, 59, will be from noon to 7 p.m. today at Heritage Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverside Memorial Park.

A 40-year Spokane resident, Miss Pfitzer died Friday. She was born in Mandan, N.D.

Miss Pfitzer worked as a nurse’s aide at the Shriners Hospital for Children for 30 years.

She was a member of the Glad Tidings Assembly of God Church.

Survivors include four brothers, Larry and Art Pfitzer, both of Spokane, Alex Pfitzer of Omak, Wash., and Bernard Pfitzer of California; and three sisters, Christine Blair, Esther Hansen and Dolores Taylor, all of Spokane.

Memorial contributions may be made to the church.

Elda (Reiber) Hall Greenacres

Visitation for Elda Bernadine (Reiber) Hall, 80, will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. today and Wednesday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home. Memorial service is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Otis Orchards Seventh-day Adventist Church.

An 80-year Spokane resident, Mrs Hall died Saturday. She was born in Colfax, Wash.

Mrs. Hall returned to college at age 40, receiving her nursing degree and working at the Veterans Administration Hospital for several years. She retired in 1984.

She volunteered at various food banks and was a member of the Otis Orchards Seventh-day Adventist Church.

After her retirement, Mrs. Hall spent winters in Desert Hot Springs, Calif.

Survivors include her husband, Harold; a son, James Huntley of Spokane; two stepsons, Dennis Huntley of Bothell, Wash., and Ben Tipke of Colbert; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Richard Culton Spokane

Funeral for Richard J. Culton, 68, was Monday at Holy Cross Cemetery Chapel. Burial was at Holy Cross Cemetery.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mr. Culton died Thursday.

He graduated from North Central High School in 1948 and attended Gonzaga University and the University of Washington.

Mr. Culton served in the Air National Guard in Alaska during the Korean War and later became an architect in the Spokane area for 40 years.

He was a member of the Cathedral of Our Lady of Lourdes.

Survivors include three sons, Greg and Richard Culton, both of Spokane and Steven Culton of Bainbridge Island, Wash.; a daughter, Chris Martin of Everett; his mother, Ida Culton of Spokane; a sister, Betty Baker of Spokane; and five grandchildren.

Granville Dowell Spokane

Memorial service for Granville P. Dowell, 78, will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday at First Church of the Nazarene. Burial was held at the Farmington (Wash.) Cemetery. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - North is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Dowell, who was born in Tekoa, Wash., died Friday.

He worked for Loomis Armored Cars for seven years before farming in the Colbert area for several years.

Mr. Dowell also worked for Kaiser Aluminum’s Mead plant, retiring in 1985 after 25 years.

He was a 25-year member of the First Church of the Nazarene and a member of the Teamsters and Steelworkers unions.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Ruth; a sister, Lucille Crockett of Spokane; and a stepsister, Genevieve Baker of Tekoa.

Memorial contributions may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene or Hospice of Spokane.

Kenneth Mendoza Tekoa, Wash.

Funeral for Kenneth G. Mendoza, 35, is planned for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the United Church of Christ in Tekoa. Burial will follow at Goldenrod Cemetery in Tekoa. Kramer Funeral Home in Tekoa is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Mendoza, who was born in Coeur d’Alene, died Thursday.

He moved to Tekoa in 1981 and graduated from Tekoa High School in 1985.

Mr. Mendoza worked as a warehouseman for BNP Lentil Co. in Farmington, Wash., for several years. For the past six years he worked for Seeds, Inc., in Tekoa.

He is survived by his father, Emanuel Mendoza of Tekoa.

Albert Holtman Spokane

Memorial service for Albert D. Holtman, 70, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Riplinger Funeral Home.

Born in Ione, Wash., Mr. Holtman died Saturday.

He was a 50-year Spokane resident and worked in various positions for Washington Water Power Co. for 36 years, most recently as an accountant.

He also delivered newspapers for The Spokesman-Review for many years.

Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Elizabeth; a son, Kevin Holtman of Spokane; a brother, Charles Holtman, and a sister, Nellie Pattee, both of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Peter Weisbeck Spokane

Vigil for Peter S. Weisbeck, 82, will be at 7 p.m. Thursday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Funeral Mass is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at the church. Thornhill Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Weisbeck, who was born in North Dakota, died March 4.

He served in the Army during World War II and moved to the Spokane area in 1943.

Mr. Weisbeck worked as an auto mechanic for many years, owning and operating Pete’s Complete Garage in the Spokane Valley for 30 years.

Survivors include eight sons, Paul Weisbeck of San Jose, Calif., Pat Weisbeck of Greenacres, Richard Weisbeck of Black Hawk, S.D., Mathew Weisbeck of Enumclaw, Wash., Stanley and Robert Weisbeck, both of Spokane, Joseph Weisbeck of Seattle and David Weisbeck of Veradale; three daughters, Cathy Weisbeck of Grand Rapids, Mich., Loretta Goeller of Santa Fe, N.M., and Vicki Vigil of Seattle; one brother; three sisters; and 14 grandchildren.

Lucia Austin Spokane

Graveside service for Lucia Austin, 90, was Monday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Austin died Wednesday.

She worked as an administrator for the Department of Social and Health Services in Spokane for several years.

She was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority and First Presbyterian Church.

Mrs. Austin was a resident of the Waterford Retirement Center for the past five years.

She is survived by her cousin, Carroll Bolger of Wisconsin.

John Stammerjohan Spokane

Visitation for John Stammerjohan, 69, will be from noon to 6 p.m. Wednesday at Heritage Funeral Home. Graveside service is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Memorial service will follow at South Hill Seventh-day Adventist Church.

Mr. Stammerjohan, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.

He graduated from North Central High School and served in the Navy Reserve.

Mr. Stammerjohan worked as a fabrication production manager and draftsman for many years.

Survivors include his wife, Kay; two daughters, Linda Buckles and Susan Haine, both of Spokane; a son, James Stammerjohan of Italy; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Luella `Sue’ Wright Spokane

Private service will be held for Luella M. “Sue” Wright. Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Wright died Thursday. She was 83.

Mrs. Wright graduated from North Central High School in 1934 and during World War II worked at Galena Air Depot.

She later married Herschell Wright and was a homemaker.

Mrs. Wright was a member of the Golden Eagles Auxiliary and the American Association of Retired Persons.

Her husband died in 1988.

Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Trueb of Spokane; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Nancy Glenn Spokane

Memorial service for Nancy A. Glenn, 77, was Monday at Whitworth Presbyterian Church.

A 15-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Glenn died March 5. She was born in Tacoma.

Mrs. Glenn was a social worker and was an active member and officer at Whitworth Presbyterian Church. She was a volunteer with the Christ Clinic and voter-registration efforts, and taught English as a second language at Country Homes Christian Church.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond; a son, Thomas Watson of Medina, Wash.; two daughters, Wendy Burton of Spokane and Claudia Sheehy of Helena; two sisters, Mary Perkins of Portland and Fran Parks of Anacortes, Wash.; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Emily (Conway) Fetterman Spokane

Memorial service for Emily (Conway) Fetterman, 83, was Monday at First Presbyterian Church.

A 57-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Fetterman died March 2. She was born in Sharpsburg, Ky.

Mrs. Fetterman graduated with a bachelor’s degree from Randolph Macon Women’s College in 1936 and received her master’s degree from New York University in 1937.

She worked as a personnel director for The Crescent department store in Spokane for 31 years.

Mrs. Fetterman had been a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority since 1933 and was a member of the Spokane College Women’s Association, Deaconess Hospital Auxiliary and the Spokane Club.

Her husband, Ike, died in 1981.

Survivors include a sister-in-law, Emily Conway of Sharpsburg; and a nephew, Allie Conway, Jr., of Lexington, Ky.
