Bunny Helpers Needed

Wildlife research

Volunteers are needed in April to help researchers survey central Washington areas for the burrows of endangered pygmy rabbits.

At least six volunteers willing to walk all day in any kind of weather are needed for some or all of the weekday surveys next month.

Biologists will train volunteers before each session.

To sign up, call the Washington Fish and Wildlife Department Wenatchee office at (509) 662-0452, or John Musser, (509) 663-9764.

Fewer than 200 pygmy rabbits are known to be in Douglas County. Sagebrush is a critical part of that habitat both as food and shelter for the pygmys, which are the smallest of North American rabbits.
