The beleaguered fashion industry, desperate to get you to abandon the black suit that’s been the de facto uniform of the ‘90s, is flooding stores with pricey clothes and accessories for men and women that flash the most vibrant shades since the psychedelic ‘60s, the Wall Street Journal says.
Supposedly staid Brooks Brothers hopes to lure businessmen away from French blue with cotton dress shirts in peach, lime or mauve.
Gucci offers “glam rock” floral pants, a la Cher, that could double as chintz sofa covers. And for her top-tier women’s spring collection, even Donna Karan has all but dumped her signature black for pastels.

And if you’re going to be a bride, wedding gown styles are pretty flowery this season, too. Spring ‘99 designs use a garden party palette - pistachio, periwinkle and a floral water roses print, says designer Nicole Miller. And more brides are choosing a color for bridesmaids and letting them choose the individual style gown they find most flattering.
The latest fashions for your children’s sneakers also are light and bright. Among the latest trends: Platform soles, all-terrain hikers and shine fabrics, Parent’s magazine reports.
