Smith River

Trip permits have been sent to 788 applicants selected to float Montana’s Smith River this season.

That leaves 2,868 applicants whose names weren’t drawn for a chance to float and fish a 59-mile scenic section of the Missouri River tributary.

People from 40 states and Canada applied. June 24 was the most sought after launch date.

Officials said a few cancellations start coming in around May 1, opening some launch dates on the 59-mile permit section of the river. Info: (406) 454-5861.
