Vandals’ Munoz, High Qualify For Ncaa Meet

A pair of Idaho Vandals qualified for the NCAA Track and Field Outdoor Championships with their efforts at the Stanford Invitational on Sunday.

Hugo Munoz qualified by clearing 7 feet, 3-3/4 inches to win the high jump.

Jeff High qualified in the hammer throw with a distance of 198-03. He finished fourth in the event.

Martin Ungerer (100-meter dash), Tawanda Chiwira (400), Joachim Olsen (shot put) and Daniel Benetka (discus) all came up with third-place finishes for the Vandals.

Baseball

Scott Biglin pitched seven strong innings to lead the Whitworth Pirates to a 10-4 Northwest Conference victory over the Pacific Boxers on Sunday in Forest Grove, Ore.

Biglin gave up just three runs in upping his record to 3-1. Jeremy Van Voorhis and Nick Schuerman each had three of Whitworth’s 15 hits.

The Washington Huskies (14-8, 3-2) hit five home runs, two by Pete Orgill, and whipped the UCLA Bruins (15-19, 1-4) 12-5 in Pac-10 action at Husky Ballpark in Seattle.

Crew

Gonzaga’s men’s varsity eight placed fourth in the grand final of the Cal Cup race at the San Diego Crew Classic on Mission Bay.

Sacramento State won the race with a time of 6 minutes, 30.6 seconds. The Bulldogs finished in 6:42.06.

Willamette took first in the women’s varsity eight Cal Cup petit final with a time of 7:22.1.

Washington State’s women’s varsity eight boat won the petit final for the consolation crown in 7:23.3. Oregon State was runner-up at 7:25.0.

University of Washington took first in the women’s JV eight grand final with a time of 7:19.5. WSU placed fifth in 7:36.1.

The Huskies also rowed to the women’s novice eight grand final title with a mark of 7:24.8, while the Cougars (7:47.9) finished fourth.

Washington State hosts Washington in a dual regatta Saturday at 2 p.m. at Wawawai Landing on the Snake River.
