Anthony Ball Graduates From Af Pilot Training

Second Lt. Anthony Ball, a member of the 141st Air Refueling Wing of the Washington Air National Guard, has graduated from U.S. Air Force Undergraduate Pilot Training at Columbus Air Force Base, Miss.

Ball, a graduate of Ferris High School and Gonzaga University, was cited for several accomplishments during the yearlong training, including the Commanders Award for Top Overall Graduate, Distinguished Graduate, and the Flying Training and Military Training awards.

He is the son of Steve Ball, Spokane, and Jane Jones, Pleasanton, Calif.

Ball will fly KC135Es for the Washington Air Guard at Fairchild Air Force Base.

Ken Alhadeff, Dwayne Mack and Rafael Reyes received Washington State University’s Martin Luther King Jr.

Distinguished Service Awards.

Alhadeff, a WSU alumnus, philanthropist and member of the university’s Board of Regents, was recognized for his impact on WSU’s College of Education Future Teachers of Color program. He has pledged up to $6,000 in scholarship support for students of color who complete their studies and become teachers.

Mack was recognized for the promotion of institutional programs that advance educational opportunities for students of color. He is a WSU history doctoral student and coordinator of WSU’s Talmadge Anderson Heritage House.

Reyes, an undergraduate student, was recognized for creating the Yakima Valley High School students’ annual visit to WSU, and serving as tutor and advisor for the high school equivalency program. He is a leader in WSU’s student Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers and Society of Latino Engineers and Scientists.

James Whittaker, a member of Boy Scouts Troop 71, has earned his Eagle Scout, the highest rank awarded in Boy Scouts of America.

For his Eagle project, Whittaker built 25 Western bluebird houses, which were then donated to the Five Mile Prairie Homeowners Association.

Whittaker, a freshman at Mead High School, is the son of Don and Shirley Whittaker, Spokane.

Air National Guard Airman 1st Class Wendy Wright graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

Wright, a 1998 graduate of Lewis and Clark High School, is the daughter of Diana and Antonio Martinez, Spokane.
