Jaye Ward Bonners Ferry, Idaho
Service for Jaye Marie Ward, 78, will be Wednesday at 1 p.m. at the Bonners Ferry Funeral Home.
Mrs. Ward, who was born in Pottstown, Pa., died Tuesday in a pedestrian/train accident in Bonners Ferry.
After graduating from high school she attended nursing school in San Francisco and then worked in hospitals and doctor’s offices in California and Alaska.
She retired in 1987 and moved to Bonners Ferry in 1990.
Survivors include a daughter, Barbara Kovacs of Naples, Idaho.
Juanita Zbinden Chewelah, Wash.
Funeral for Juanita Zbinden, 87, is planned for 2 p.m. Monday at the Summit Valley (Wash.) Community Church near Addy, Wash. Burial will be at Summit Valley Cemetery. Schanzenbach Funeral Home in Chewelah is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Zbinden, who was born in Summit Valley, died Tuesday.
She attended schools in Maude and Summit Valley before attending Davenport (Wash.) High School.
In 1928 she married Harland Hopkins, and they operated a sawmill and farmed near Davenport for many years. Mr. Hopkins died in 1965.
She continued to farm until 1969, when she purchased a home in Chewelah. She lived there until 1974, when she married Will Zbinden. They moved to his farm near Marble Valley, Wash. He died in 1979.
She lived on the farm in Marble Valley until 1998, when she returned to Chewelah.
Survivors include a son, Harley Hopkins of Addy, Wash.; two sisters, Clara Hathaway of Santee, Calif., and Frances Pearson of Auburn, Wash.; three grandchildren and four greatgrandchildren.
Howard `Gary’ Stone Cordova, Alaska
A celebration of life for Howard Gariel “Gary” Stone, 46, was April 25 at the Praise Church in Bonners Ferry, Idaho. Bonners Ferry Funeral Home was in charge of local arrangements.
Mr. Stone was killed April 15 by an avalanche in an industrial accident near Cordova.
He was born in Bonners Ferry and had worked locally before moving to Cordova four years ago.
Survivors include his companion, Sharon Ranny; five children, Karie Stone, Micah Stone, Jessica Ridinger, Camille Stricklin and Chaun Stone; a sister, Lauri Edwards; and his parents, Clyde and Twyla Stone.
Helen Boughter Spokane
Memorial service for Helen Boughter, 69, was Thursday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Boughter, died Monday.
She worked as a housekeeper at Sacred Heart Medical Center for several years.
Mrs. Boughter was a member of the Grandmother’s Club and Eagles Lodge No. 2 Auxiliary.
Survivors include five sons, Jack, Joseph, Jay, Jeffry, and Eugene Boughter; two daughters, Janine Richards and Jessie Garcia; 17 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to the American Lung Association.
William Brucker Cheney
Graveside service for William G. Brucker, 78, was Thursday at Spokane Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Brucker died Saturday.
Mr. Brucker was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, retiring after 30 years with the Army.
He later worked as a counselor at Lakeland Village in Medical Lake for many years.
Survivors include three daughters, Rachelle Biglow of Eugene, Ore., Martina Johnson of Springfield, Ore., and Korina Neiland of Chicago; two sons, Matthew Gregory of Roseburg, Ore., and Michael Brucker of Germany.
Mercy May (Houston) Smith Spokane
Funeral for Mercy May (Houston) Smith, 107, will be at 11 a.m. Monday at St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Ephrata, Wash. Burial will be at Valley View Memorial Park in Soap Lake. Nicoles Funeral Home in Ephrata is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Smith, who was born on a farm in Douglas County, Kansas, died Monday.
She moved to Spokane with her family in 1907 and married Alvin Smith in 1910.
In 1918 Mrs. Smith moved to Waterville, Wash., and in 1943 moved to Ephrata, where her husband became the chief of police.
Mrs. Smith worked as a licensed practical nurse in Ephrata and Soap Lake, Wash., for several years. She retired in 1970.
After the death of her husband in 1976, she began cooking and gardening, canning at least 100 quarts of tomatoes each year.
She suffered a stroke in 1992 and moved to Auburn to be closer to family. In 1998 she returned to Spokane to live with her great-grandson, Roger Stepper.
She was a longtime member of the Rebekkah Lodge and a lifetime member of the Episcopal Church.
Survivors include a son, Larry Smith of San Ramon, Calif.; two foster daughters, Betty Blanchard and Linda Barber; seven grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren and 35 great-great-grandchildren.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Spokane or St. John the Baptist Episcopal Church in Ephrata.
Daisy Johnson Post Falls
No service will be held for Daisy Faye Johnson, 77. Coeur d’Alene Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Johnson, who was born in Missoula, died Wednesday.
She married Ralph Johnson in 1944 and then lived in Spokane, moving to Post Falls in the 1970s.
Survivors include her husband; three daughters, Teri Vaughn and Sandra Coleman, both of Post Falls, and Darlene Tonning of Lolo, Mont.; a sister, Jean Mann of Michigan; two grandchildren and three grandchildren.
Terry Canoy Cheney
Visitation for Terry D. Canoy, 50, will be from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Memorial service is planned for 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
A longtime Spokane-area resident, Mr. Canoy died Wednesday. He was born in Spokane.
He graduated from Columbia High School in Richland.
He worked in the construction industry for several years. He was a member of the Laborers Union Local 4038 for 16 years.
Survivors include his companion, Joni Iddines of Spokane; three sons, Troy and Chad Canoy, both of Spokane, and Todd Canoy of Post Falls; three daughters, Patricia Peterson and Marie York, both of Spokane, and Jennifer Ferguson of Athol, Idaho; two brothers, Ronald Canoy of Pasco and Leon Canoy of Minnesota; and 10 grandchildren.
Marie Mithoug Spokane
Funeral for Marie Mithoug, 75, will be at 2 p.m. Sunday at Thornhill Valley Funeral Home. Call Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home for visitation information.
A longtime Spokane resident, Mrs. Mithoug died Wednesday. She was born in Troy, Mont.
She was raised and attended schools in Spokane. She worked as a cashier at various Coeur d’Alene area grocery stores before moving to Seattle, where she raised her family and worked for 30 years.
She returned to Spokane 12 years ago.
Survivors include her husband; four children; her stepmother; several brothers and sisters; four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
