Block Grants In Plan

The Spokane City Council will consider approving a $6.3 million Consolidated Community Development and Housing Plan for 1999 when it meets today.

The plan includes $4.5 million in federal Community Development Block Grant money.

Under the plan, 13 of the city’s lowest income neighborhoods will share a $1 million block grant.

The money can be used for a wide range of neighborhood needs.

The plan also includes $1.6 million in housing money and a $160,000 emergency shelter grant.

The money helps fund community centers, low-income housing programs, community policing and other projects, agencies and social services.

Public comments will be taken on the proposed plan during the evening meeting.

The City Council briefing session begins at 3:30 p.m. in the council briefing center, on the lower level of City Hall. The council meeting begins at 6 p.m. in the City Council chambers.
