Burnette `Buzzie’ (Grimes) Jones Spokane
Memorial service for Burnette “Buzzie” (Grimes) Jones, a lifetime Spokane area resident and active community volunteer, will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John The Evangelist. Private burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Born in Pullman, Mrs. Jones died Sunday. She was 92.
She attended high school and grade school in Pullman, and then attended Washington State University.
In 1932 she married Kennard Jones in San Francisco. They moved to Spokane in 1935.
Mrs. Jones was very active in her WSU sorority, Alpha Chi Omega, for 35 years. She served as chapter advisor, president of the Spokane Alpha Chi Omega Alumnae Club, as the national president from 1957 to 1960, and held many other regional and national offices.
She was a civic volunteer and leader in Spokane, serving as president of the Spokane City Panhellenic and the Bishop Wells Guild of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist. She served as chairperson of the Seth Richard Guild at St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital and as a recovery room volunteer there for 22 years.
Mrs. Jones also served as chairperson of the Grace Campbell House Committee and was a board member of the Cheney Cowles Memorial Museum, Women of Rotary, the Service League of the Episcopal Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and St. Luke’s Memorial Hospital Auxiliary.
She was a member of Chapter E of the P.E.O. and the Landscape Association of St. John’s Cathedral.
Mrs. Jones was the first woman to receive the Washington State University Alumni Achievement Award in 1971. Recognizing the many contributions the Grimes family made to WSU, a prominent campus street, Grimes Way, and a fountain on campus were dedicated to the Grimes family in 1992.
Survivors include a daughter, Judith Jones of Spokane; two sons, Barry Jones of Spokane and Dennis Jones of Fort Worth, Texas; a sister, Georgia Winn; eight grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Alvin Rounsville Clark Fork, Idaho
Memorial service for Alvin Harvey Rounsville, 68, will be at 1 p.m. today at Coffelt Funeral Chapel in Sandpoint. Mr. Rounsville, who was born in Coon Rapids, Minn., died Thursday.
He grew up in the Hope/Clark Fork area. He served as a radio equipment repairman with the Army during the Korean and Vietnam wars.
Mr. Rounsville retired from the military after 21 years and settled in California. He worked for the Postal Service.
In 1978 he moved to Spokane and then lived in Troy, Mont., for several years before returning to Clark Fork in 1997.
Mr. Rounsville was active with the Clark Fork Senior Center. Survivors include three daughters, Julie Russell, Brenda Radulovich and Laurie Lane, all of California; five brothers, Harold Rounsville of Clark Fork, Charley Rounsville of North Dakota, Jim Rounsville of Bremerton, George Rounsville of Post Falls and Dale Rounsville of Spokane; six sisters, Charlotte Stangle of Salem, Ore., Minnie Erickson of Wyoming, Lillian Pugh of Spirit Lake, Idaho, Betty Gibson of Athol, Idaho, and Laverna Lee and Doris Wells, both of Spokane; and nine grandchildren.
Benny Bachman Spokane
Visitation for Benny F. Bachman, 65, will be today from 9 a.m. until the funeral, which is planned for 1 p.m., at Heritage Funeral Home. Burial will be at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
Mr. Bachman, who was born in Spokane, died Friday.
He married Kay Selle in 1956.
Mr. Bachman served in the Army and later worked as a technical engineer for Washington Water Power for 40 years.
He was a member of the WWP Trailblazers and was very active with the Spokane Youth Little League.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dean Bachman and two daughters, Kris Bolinger and Kelli Harris, all of Spokane; a brother, Jack Bachman, of Spokane; and four grandchildren.
Sr. Alice Marie Power, S.N.J.M. Spokane
Funeral Mass for Sr. Alice Marie Power, 88, will be at 10 a.m. today at the Convent of the Holy Names. Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Sister Power, who was born in Seattle, died Friday.
She attended St. Mary’s grade school and Holy Names Academy, both in Seattle before entering the novitiate of the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary at Marylhurst, Oregon in 1928.
Sister Power continued her education, receiving a bachelor’s degree in education from Holy Names College in Spokane and a master’s in religious education from Seattle University.
During the years of her active ministry, Sister taught in the primary grades, and was an elementary school principal in Oregon and Washington.
She then focused her attention on preparing teachers and programs for presentation of religious education to children who attended public schools, eventually overseeing that program for the Archdiocese of Seattle.
In her later years, Sister visited the infirm and homebound in the Seattle area before she retired to the Convent of the Holy Names in Spokane several years ago, to spend time in prayer for the people and ministries of the community.
Sister Power is survived by two sisters, Sister M. Cecilia Claire Power of Spokane and Mary Catherine Myers of Seattle.
Michael Tolliver Kettle Falls, Wash.
Funeral for Michael Andrew Tolliver, 31, will be at 11 a.m. today at the The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Colville (Wash.) Stake Center. Burial will follow at the Orient (Wash.) Cemetery. Danekas Funeral Home in Colville is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Tolliver, who was born in Jacksonville, Texas, died Friday from injuries suffered in an automobile accident near Wenatchee.
He moved to Orient with his family, attending schools there before attending Kettle Falls High School.
Mr. Tolliver enlisted in the Marine Corps in 1990, and served during the Gulf War.
After his discharge he began working for Tyler Construction in Kettle Falls.
In 1996 he married Jennifer Tyler.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Gage Tolliver at home; his mother and stepfather, Virginia and Ike Sowards of Kettle Falls; his father and stepmother, John and Sharon Tolliver of Orient; two brothers, Jim Stong of Colville and Robert Tolliver of Orient; four sisters, Jodi Johnson of Spokane, Cheryl Tolliver and Jean Sowards, both of Kettle Falls, and Anne Sowards of Colville; and his grandfather, Al Sowards of Kettle Falls.

Betty Rodgers Spokane
Funeral for Betty Jane Rodgers, 72, will be at 2 p.m. today at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Otis Orchards. Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rodgers, who was born in Fargo, N.D., died Friday.
She retired from working as a clerk for the Department of Agriculture after 26 years.
Mrs. Rodgers participated in a bowling league and was a member of the St. Joseph’s Catholic Church Altar Society.
Her husband, Jerry, died in 1983.
Survivors include a son, Bob Rodgers, and a daughter, Kathy Rodgers, both of Spokane; and two grandchildren.

Nettie Hobert Spokane
Visitation for Nettie A. Hobert, 95, will be from noon to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Thursday at Bethel Church of the Nazarene.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Hobert died Friday.
She worked as a registered nurse in Spokane for many years. Mrs. Hobert was a member of the Deaconess Nursing Alumni Association.
Her husband, Levi, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a son, Richard Hobert; a daughter, Bonnie Hobert; and a grandson.

Michael Fode Spokane
Funeral for Michael K. Fode, 47, will be at 2 p.m. today at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home. Hennessey Valley Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A longtime Spokane resident, Mr. Fode died Thursday. He was born in Spokane.
Mr. Fode lived in Lind, Wash., before moving to Colville, Wash., with his family. He graduated from Colville High School in 1969.
He served as a deputy sheriff in Stevens County and worked as a security guard and emergency medical technician for Northwest Alloys before moving to Spokane.
Mr. Fode was an assistant foreman in the School District 81 maintenance department for 22 years.
He served as past president and was a longtime member of the Spokane Corvette Club. He was a member of the American Breeders Association.
He married his wife, Darlene, in 1989.
Survivors include his wife; a son, Dennis Weimer of Spokane; three daughters, Tammy Blair and Colene Lange, both of Spokane, and Heather Duggan of Aliso Viejo, Calif.; his mother, Ferrell Fode, and a sister, Wesley Ann Schulhauser, both of Pullman; and three grandchildren.
Clarence `Bart’ Bartholomew Spokane
Visitation for Clarence Wilburn “Bart” Bartholomew, 80, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 1 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Fairmount Memorial Park.
A 75-year Spokane resident, Mr. Bartholomew died Friday. He was born in Trout Creek, Mich.
He worked as an instrument repairman at Galena Air Depot during World War II.
He later retired as an architect engineer for Pacific Northwest Bell after 36 years.
Mr. Bartholomew was a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America and Northview Bible Church.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Ida; three sons, Craig Bartholomew of Spokane, James Bartholomew of Everett and Bradley Bartholomew of Vancouver, Wash.; four grandchildren and one great-grandson, Memorial contributions may be made to Union Gospel Mission.
Joseph Adams Davenport, Wash.
Rosary for Joseph R. “Joe” Adams, 68, will be at 7 p.m. today at St. Francis Catholic Church in Harrington, Wash. Funeral Mass is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will follow at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Harrington. Strate Funeral Home in Davenport is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Adams, who was born in Davenport, died Friday.
He was a longtime Lincoln County wheat farmer and member of St. Francis Catholic Church in Harrington.
Survivors include his wife, Kay; and a sister, Geraldine Steele of Cheney.

Clara Sandeno Spokane
Visitation for Clara L. Sandeno, 92, will be from noon to 8 p.m. today at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home. Funeral is planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Fairmount Memorial Park.
A 50-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Sandeno died Friday. She was born in Montana.
She was a homemaker and a member of the Pines Baptist Church, where she sang with the Silver Tones choir group.
Her husband, Oscar, died in 1976.
Survivors include three sons, Robert, Francis and Gary Sandeno; two daughters, Lois Schmidt and Shirley Dunwoody; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

Frances Earney Spokane
Funeral for Frances I. Earney, 89, was Monday at Hazen and Jaeger Funeral Home. Burial was at Greenwood Memorial Terrace.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Earney died Thursday.
She worked as a clerk at various businesses over the years.
Mrs. Earney was also a homemaker and a member of Grace Baptist Church.
Her husband, Ollie, preceded her in death.
Survivors include a daughter, Mary Davis of Spokane; five grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.

George Hanson Garfield, Wash.
Memorial service for George V. Hanson, 66, will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Garfield Christian Church. Kramer Funeral Home in Palouse, Wash., is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Hanson, who was born in Spokane, died April 26.
He graduated from Garfield High School in 1951. In 1952 he married Carol Chase.
Mr. Hanson worked as a machinist at the J.E. Love Co. in Garfield for many years. He retired as the shop superintendent in 1988.
He was a member of Garfield Christian Church, a charter member of the Garfield Lions Club and a volunteer firefighter in Garfield. He served as a scoutmaster for the Boy Scouts of America in Garfield, and helped organize the first Scout breakfast for Garfield’s May Day.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Virgil Hanson of Palouse, Donald Hanson of Garfield, Robert Hanson of Whitefish, Mont., and Rex Hanson of Peosta, Iowa; a daughter, Yvonne Nelson of Lolo, Mont.; three brothers, Dale and Roy Hanson, both of Garfield, and Gordon Hanson of Salem, Ore.; a sister, Marilyn Bye of Ephrata, Wash.; 16 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Elsie Miller Spokane

A 38-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Miller died Saturday. She was born in Odessa, Wash.
Mrs. Miller was a homemaker and a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church. She was a longtime Five Mile Prairie resident.
Survivors include four sons, Charles, James and John Miller, all of Spokane, and Mick Miller of Mead; two daughters, Marion Geib and Linda Demaio, both of Spokane; and two sisters, Verna Winters of Odessa and Marceiel Smith of Ritzville, Wash.

E.M. Bates Spokane
Memorial service for E.M. Bates, 85, will be at 4 p.m. Friday at Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home.
Mr. Bates, who was born in Kansas, died Sunday.
He moved to Spokane in 1936.
In 1942 he founded Bates Drug Store.
During the 1960s and 1970s he bred and raised Arabian horses.
Mr. Bates served on the Central Valley School Board for eight years.
His first wife, Ellyn, preceded him in death.
Survivors include his second wife, Peggie; three children, William, Gary and Marilyn; 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Kenneth Crippen Spokane
No service will be held for Kenneth Crippen, 93, at his request. The Cremation Society of Washington is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Crippen, who was born in St. John, Wash., died Friday.
He attended schools in Spokane and attended Washington State College, where he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi Fraternity.
After working at newspapers in San Francisco and Oakland, Calif., he returned to Spokane and became a member of the editorial staff at The Spokesman-Review for 42 years. He retired in 1971.
His wife of 70 years, Beatrice, died March 25.
There are no immediate surviving family members.
Violet McNary Spokane
No service will be held for Violet R. McNary, 94, at her request. Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - North is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. McNary, who died Saturday, was born in Ferney, S.D.
She attended schools in Bellevue, Idaho.
She worked as a housekeeper for several years until 1938 when she married Samuel McNary.
Her husband died in 1958.
Mrs. McNary moved to Spokane in 1979.
Survivors include a son, Samuel McNary of Spokane; and two grandchildren.
Myrtle Wyrick Ridgecrest, Calif.
Memorial service for Myrtle G. Wyrick, 80, was held in Ridgecrest. Burial will be at Spokane Memorial Gardens at a later date.
Mrs. Wyrick, who was born in Spokane, died April 22.
She worked as a secretary for Zales Jewelry, Dick and Sons Jewelry, and for Client Services Inc. in Spokane for many years.
After her husband, Vern, died in 1989, she began working for the Eastern Washington Council on Aging. She retired and moved to California five years ago.
Mrs. Wyrick was a member of the Altrusa Women’s Service Organization for 18 years and had been active with children’s ministries through her church in Ridgecrest.
Survivors include two daughters, Helen Lynch of Spokane and Judy Tharp of Ridgecrest; a son, Don Wyrick of Ridgecrest; 10 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Fred Stover Colfax, Wash.
Funeral for Fred J. Stover, a former longtime Endicott, Wash., resident, will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Bruning Funeral Home in Colfax. Burial will follow at the Colfax Cemetery.
Mr. Stover, who was born in Albion, Wash., died Friday. He was 95.
He was raised and educated in the Albion area. In 1914 he moved to Ephrata, Wash., where he finished grade school. He then began farming with his father.
In 1924 he married Elthea Wheeler. He continued farming in Ephrata until moving to the Wilcox area of Whitman County in 1930.
In 1941 he moved to Union Flat, Wash., near Endicott.
Mr. Stover was a 68-year member of the Wilcox Grange, where he was one of the last surviving charter members. He was also a 50-year member of the International Order of Odd Fellows in Colfax.
His first wife died in 1954.
In 1955 he married Nan Brookhart. She died in 1992 and he moved to the Whitman Convalescent Center in Colfax.
Survivors include a son, Dale Stover of Endicott; a daughter, Joyce Hamilton of St. John, Wash.; seven grandchildren, five greatgrandchildren and three stepgrandchildren.

Marguerite Hess Spokane
Memorial service for Marguerite G. Hess, 81, is planned for 1 p.m. Saturday at Plymouth Congregational Church. Hennessey-Smith Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
A lifetime Spokane resident, Mrs. Hess died April 17.
She worked as the traffic manager at KXLY-TV before retiring in 1979.
Mrs. Hess was a member of Plymouth Congregational Church and was a volunteer at the YMCA and at her church. She also was a member of the Spokane Falls Needlework Guild.
Her husband of 50 years, Herbert, died in 1996.
Survivors include a daughter, Lynne Hess of Spokane; and a sister, Jennie Kingham of Kirkland, Wash.

Charlotte Halvorsen Spokane
Memorial service for Charlotte, R. Halvorsen, 78, will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Hennessey Valley Funeral Home.
A 35-year Spokane resident, Mrs. Halvorsen died Thursday. She was born in Newport, Wash.
She worked at J.C. Penney in Spokane for many years, and was one of the first female department heads. She retired after 26 years.
Mrs. Halvorsen was a member of Valley Four Square Church.
Her husband, Edward Pohlman, died in 1968.
Survivors include a daughter, Jaye Nance of Spokane; a son, Chris Pohlman of Florence, Ore.; a brother, Robert Watts of Spokane; a sister, June Opperman of Fountain, Fla.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
