This Could Be Lucci’S Year
Could this - finally - be Susan Lucci’s year to take home a Daytime Emmy?
With the awards show less than a month away, buzz is that Lucci has her best-ever chance of winning the elusive bauble - which would end her infamous streak of 19 nominations without a win.
“It’s neck and neck between Lucci and (`Guiding Light’s’) Kim Zimmer,” said Emmy expert Tom O’Neil, author of “Variety’s The Emmy.” “Lucci could actually do it. She’s finally done everything right.”
Working in her favor is a submission tape featuring two episodes that show a wide range of acting chops. That stands in stark contrast to previous years when Lucci has entered chest-pounding, over-the-top performances and not much actual acting.
“Last year she cried through 75 percent of her (nomination) tape,” O’Neil said. “This year she displays her entire range.”
The tape submitted for Zimmer, said O’Neil, offers up a “ridiculous plot line” that could send voters in Lucci’s direction. Still, Zimmer plays twins, which has always been a favorite with Emmy voters.
“If Lucci is ever going to win that Emmy, she’s got the strongest chance I’ve ever seen,” O’Neil said.
