Obituaries

John Goode Rathdrum, Idaho

Visitation for John B. “Jack” Goode, 72, will be Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Yates Funeral Home in Coeur d’Alene. Graveside service will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Pinegrove Cemetery in Rathdrum with the American Legion Post 143 of Post Falls conducting.

Mr. Goode, who was born in Traverse City, Mich., died Sunday.

He moved to Canada at the age of 14 and illegally joined the Canadian Army in 1940. He served in World War II before being discharged due to his age. He then returned to the United States and joined the Marine Corps, serving from 1943 to 1946.

Mr. Goode then served with the Air Force as a navigator and radioman with the joint United States/United Nations Security Forces in Western Europe. He retired in 1965 as a sergeant.

He lived in the Florida cities of Jupiter City and Cape Canaveral after his military service and worked as a car salesman. He settled in Rathdrum in 1981.

Mr. Goode was active in building and flying miniature airplanes.

Survivors include his many friends in the Coeur d’Alene and Rathdrum areas.

Ruth (Rule) Truscott Tacoma

Funeral for Ruth K. (Rule) Truscott, 85, will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Powers Funeral Home in Puyallup, Wash.

A former longtime Spokane and Priest Lake, Idaho, resident, Mrs. Truscott died Sunday. She was born in upstate New York.

Mrs. Truscott worked as a tax practitioner for many years and was a member of the Washington State Tax Practitioners Association.

She was a member of United Lutheran Church where she served as treasurer of the WELCA. She was also a member of the Elks Lodge Auxiliary and volunteered with the Humane Society.

Mrs. Truscott moved to Tacoma in 1988.

Survivors include five granddaughters and 10 great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to the United Lutheran Church for youth ministries.

Ted Lang Spokane

Funeral for Ted T. Lang, 65, will be at 2 p.m. today at Ball and Dodd Funeral Home - South. Burial will be at St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Trentwood.

Mr. Lang, who was born in Zap, N.D., died Monday.

He graduated from Golden Valley (N.D.) High School in 1952 and moved to Spokane.

Mr. Lang attended Mohlar Barber School in Spokane and worked as a barber in Airway Heights, Pasco and Spokane.

He later became a Realtor, working for House of Properties, Mark Four Real Estate and Schmitz Real Estate, all in Spokane. He retired in 1996.

His wife, Margaret, died in 1997.

Survivors include two daughters, Debbie Kolkman and Diane Timoney, both of Spokane; four sisters, Ramona Kruckenberg of Spokane, Alta Eddleman of Beulah, N.D., and Leona Richau and Delma Jassman, both of Golden Valley; three brothers, Bernard Lang of Halliday, N.D., Elmer Lang of Rochester, N.Y., and Melvin Lang of Beulah; three grandchildren and one great-granddaughter.

Memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.

Melvin Reynolds Spokane

Memorial service for Melvin L. Reynolds, 70, will be at 2 p.m. Friday at St. Andrews Episcopal Church. Inurnment will follow at Spokane Memorial Gardens. Riplinger Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Reynolds, who died Tuesday, was a 32-year Spokane resident.

He was born in Council Bluffs, Iowa.

Mr. Reynolds worked as a glazier for glass companies in Spokane for 30 years.

He was a member of the Spokane Rifle Club.

Survivors include his wife, Nancy; four sons, Michael, David, Mark and Gregory Reynolds, and a daughter, Debra Peterson, all of Spokane; a sister, Tina Walford, and a brother, Joseph Reynolds, both of Casper, Wyo.; and five grandchildren.

Memorial contributions may be made to St. Andrews Episcopal Church.

Harry Bonfield Sr. Post Falls

Viewing for Harry Keely Bonfield Sr., 76, will be Friday from noon to 5 p.m. at English Funeral Chapel in Post Falls. Service will be Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Post Falls. Burial will be at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls.

Mr. Bonfield, who was born in Philadelphia, died Sunday.

He grew up in Pennsylvania and graduated from the Patton Masonic Trade School, where he studied carpentry. He then attended Temple University before graduating from the National Optical School in Philadelphia.

Mr. Bonfield served with the Army Air Corps during World War II and trained as an airplane mechanic and ball-turret gunner on B-24 bombers, flying 30 missions over Germany, France and Belgium. He was awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross and Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters.

Mr. Bonfield married Euline Hortense Cook in 1944. They settled in Nashville, Tenn., and he worked for the Nashville Gas Co. a division of Piedmont Natural Gas Co., before retiring in 1982 after 34 years.

He moved to Post Falls after his retirement and was a member, elder and high priest of the Mormon Church, and an inactive member of University Masonic Lodge 610 in Philadelphia.

Mr. Bonfield had served as scoutmaster of Boy Scout Troop 28 in Nashville for 12 years and was also awarded the Long Rifle Award by the Dan Beard District of Boy Scouts of America for meritorious service there.

Survivors include his wife; two sons, Harry Bonfield Jr. of Tucson, Ariz., and David Bonfield of New Jersey; a daughter, Sandra Cody of Post Falls; eight grandchildren and one greatgrandchild.

Edward `Ted’ Grant Sandpoint

Memorial service for Edward Porter “Ted” Grant, 98, will be held at a later date. Coffelt Funeral Service in Sandpoint is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Grant, who was born in Rhinelander, Wis., died Saturday.

He moved to North Idaho in 1907 and lived in Denton, Idaho, for many years. He worked in logging camps throughout North Idaho and Washington.

Mr. Grant then worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression. In 1940 he started a career with the Northern Pacific Railroad as a gandy dancer. He lived in the Sandpoint area and retired in 1965.

Mr. Grant was an activist in local city government.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Alice.

Survivors include a daughter, Rachel Staver of Hayden, Idaho; a brother, Carl Grant, of Medical Lake; a sister, Grace Kipp of Orting, Wash.; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren and five great-great-grandchildren.

Frances Gray Spokane

Memorial service for Frances L. Gray, 74, is planned for 10 a.m. Friday at Hazen and Jaeger Valley Funeral Home.

Born in Missoula, Mrs. Gray died April 25.

She was a 25-year Spokane resident and was a member and past priestess of Eiram Court No. 62 of the Ladies Oriental Shrine, a member of the Church of Religious Science and Alpha Chi Omega Sorority at Montana State University.

Her husband, William, died in 1981.

Survivors include a son, William Gray of Liberty Lake; a brother, Klas Fenell of Kittery Point, Maine; and three grandchildren.
