McDonald’s is taking another stab at the pizza business - though this time the fast-food chain is buying its way in. The Oak Brook, Ill.-based company announced Wednesday it has purchased the privately owned Donatos Pizza chain of 143 restaurants for an undisclosed sum. The acquisition of the Columbus, Ohio-based chain comes years after McDonald’s own pizza offerings failed to catch on with American consumers.

Ted Deikel, who started his career by founding a mail-order monkey business and built Fingerhut into a multibillion-dollar marketing machine, has stepped down as Fingerhut’s CEO. William Lansing, 41, who joined Minnetonka-based Fingerhut as president a year ago, will takes over as CEO. Deikel, 63, will stay on as chairman through January.

An item in the Margins section of Wednesday’s Retail & Real Estate column left an initial out of the name of a Bellevue-based construction management company. The name should have read KJM and Associates.
